So the almond leaves will be okay with pea puffers right?

They'll be fine with that. The almond leaves lower pH and release tannins into the water so be aware of that.So the almond leaves will be okay with pea puffers right?

ph is a bit high at 8.3 which I will lower by using the almond leaves once I get some, temp is 77.1, he gets fed bloodworms, brine shrimp and occasionally eats ghost shrimp that I buy as scavengers for the tank. He’s got plenty of hiding spaces but like I mentioned before he lives to stay by the overflow. I’d say 50 percent of the time he is by the overflow.Your betta has some severe fin clamping going in, which can be caused by several things. Stress, water conditions, or quality.
What is the temp and ph? Ammonia nitrite and nitrate?
Bettas prefer warmer waters. I keep mine in 82 degrees. Like like a lower ph but can do OK in higher as long as everything else is met, and they are stable. The puffers absolutely could be an issue, even if you don’t see it. Bettas can live upwards of six years if cared for properly. They need a good meaty diet, and prefer foods like bloodworms and insect larvae. I’ve found the fluval bug bites and Northfin big buffet(I’ll have to look up that exact name) to be loved by all my bettas. The Indian almond leaves are wonderful to help heal issues and de stress. If you can’t find any, get topi is tea. Boil some out and slowly drip into the water. Bettas are Blackwater fish so it will help him feel more comfortable. How many caves and hides does he have and what’s the flow like? Also, you didn’t say what the tail type of the new guy was? The one in question is a veiltail, they only have two rays on the fins so it’s not going to be very fluffy. Half moons have four to six rays causing more. This guy is a half moon.

But I think I would’ve seen it at least once that the puffers go near him. The two puffers barely fight with each other, I doubt they would be going near the betta, 5x as big as them.+1 to almond leaves, also you are not watching tank 24/7 right, I SERIOUSLY think the puffers are the problem.
Will do thanks. Do you think he needs more hiding spaces? honestly, in all the time I’ve spent looking at the tank, I’ve never seen the puffers even go near him. They stay by the plants and come out for feeding. He’s cold. Very cold. And could be by that overflow from being weak and trying to avoid the puffers. Slowly raise his temp up to at the very least 79 or 80. That will help a little. Add the tannins to help with ph but also dim it down some as well.
I’ll take a look at that thanks so muchThey make these floating log things specifically for bettas. I bet he would really enjoy one of them. He needs a nice shaded spot. Something he can get into to be out of the light and flow, and have easy access to the top. Bettas are labyrinth breathers as I’m sure you know. So they like to occupy the upper areas the most. While they do like caves near the bottom their spot is up top. Adding floating plants will also help buy those can overtake a tank rather swiftly.
