Unexplained torch head loss

Since meeting Vintage I’ve started target feeding. Haven’t had issues, but one thing kinda made sense, if it has a mouth it probably wants to eat even though it’s photosynthetic
This is something I fully believe.

Regardless if you believe in God, Evolution, or nothing at all…this is a living creature - a plant animal hybrid for lack of better term, and if it has receptors for a form of photosynthesis - it needs light. If it has a mouth and ability to digest and process food - it should eat.

If something has both, then it probably is meant to use both. And while they can survive on one or the other, that is a survival tactic and probably not meant for long term. You don’t get the same nutrients from light as you do from food, they are designed/built to utilize both.

Proper par range is important, and so is target feeding min of 2x weekly

Do you want coral to survive or thrive? There is a difference in those words

All lps recover faster and grow faster when target fed. This also helps prevent issues.

A couple questions: What is your fish stocking list? Is it possible you have a nipper?

Have you checked for euphyllia eating flatworms? You said you have wrasses, but mine largely ignored my euphyllia eating flatworms. it might be worth dipping your surviving heads if they start to recede. I use DipX and have had a lot of success with it.

My phosphates swing daily so I doubt that’s bothering them. I also wouldn’t think that raising alk over a 3 day period would bother them but I could be wrong.
Hay
No nipoer for sure
I do have a wrasse and round some Brown flatworms in my sump so they must be keeping them out the display but the yes not eefws

I wonder why my 5 hammers that also have months thrive right next to the torches under do same par / flow no target feedings

I went from .98 to .5 in 3 days with Phosguard in a media reactor. I took recommended dosage and added 10% extra

I went from .5 down to .2 by increasing hours of led light on my algae scrubber
Thanks. I used the recommended amount of Phosbond in my media basket, but have had no noticeable change. Maybe I'll give Phosguard a go, I have some laying around from a friend.

Also got some Phosphate RX that I haven't tried yet.

I was running a small algae scrubber, but the LEDs burned out, and never installed the replacement.
