Nice.....I wouldn't worry about algae how long has this tank been up? I spent the first year after setting mine up the second time with an algae issue.....It happends. Looks like some nice color morphs you got there.....Simular to the ones I got. Hard to beat the colors and price.

Thanks James, the tank has been up three weeks this past Thursday, or is it two?

Did you use old rock from another tank? I did and never had the algae that I have been fighting in the old tank....Not sure where it came from, but with it being so young this is the kinda stuff I am sure you are aware of can happen. My tank didn truly stabilize untill I hit the one year or so mark which was may. Since then I have noticed a little more stability and it seems to not go through as many ups and downs......Just keep up the good work and you will be paid off in a sweet tank....

Thanks James, I used 40 lbs of Marco's Premium Fiji dry rock. I also seeded the tank with about 24 pounds of Live rock from a LFS that had been in there system for about 4 months, previous to that a customers for about 2 years. Or so I was told.

Since Im stuck at work all day today and tomorrow Im cutting the lights off to see if I can starve the algae. After work I need to go get my QT tank so Ill pick up some phosphate filter media from the LFS and see how that goes. I've also just decided to get myself a RO/DI unit. No really like two seconds ago!!

Any suggestions on which one and where to buy?

Not sure on the RO/DI I don't have one should get one myself. I get my water from the LFS and their RO/DI. I get it for free most of the time so all it cost me is going and lugging the jugs around.....

when i had my huge algae bloom my tests should negative on all fronts. the algae locks up all the nitrates in itself , showing negative to tests. I kept up on alk and pruned every day as much as i could and add a lawnmower blenny to munch on it

Update 9/12

Algae is much improved. Lights were off all day yesterday and half exposure today. Did some heavy pruning yesterday and no new growth today that I can tell. Existing algae is much lighter in color. Added a poly filter for phosphates.

Ordered RO/DI unit should be here early in the week.
Made clear mesh screen, with cool hand blown glass marble for handle.
Added small spice rack to inside door to hold foods.
Also set up QT tonight as I am making a very nice pick up tomorrow morning!

Should be exciting!
Expect pics tomorrow, man this thread is boring.

i called aqua fx out of florida, the made me a custom Dr. Mac with booster pump for about $40 less than Dr. Mac charges.
here is the link: Aqua FX - Contact
ask for peter he hooked me up

Well I had a super cool update for this morning but instead I am supper ticked off.

See I found a pair of Pylei Cebu last night at my LFS. He agreed to hold them for me until Tuesday so that they get a little more acclimated and comfortable.
After coming home and feeling bad about asking him to hold them for me I decided to take the risk and go back in this morning at opening to claim my hidden gems.
Long story short some guy whos only been in there twice before threw a hissy fit about the fact that the fish were on hold. And that the LFS policy is that they hold no fish for no person. He agreed to hold it for me as I spend LOTS of money there and have been a long standing customer, who also refers countless people per year. So he sold it out from under me?
Good business practice or poor customer service? Whats your opinion?
:angry::angry:

If there is any good news out of this, its that there are five more coming in next week. Will they have the colors that this one had? Probably not. But we will have to see?
Ill post pics later of what I did get!

Okay here we go NEW Pylei Cebu. In rough shape but I am still really happy and hopeful for one its survival then that it heals and colors up.

Also added another wrasse labeled as a carpenter wrasse. Seeing some different variations, maybe someone can help me with a bit of a better ID.
This guy was super active and hungry so after acclimation he went right in the DT.
Check out this first pic before entry!!!

Good call Kraylen, that is exactly what it looks like after poking around the net a little.

The colors of this guy is rediculous. Hes a bit of a hard butt too, chasing the Cromis around. Thankfully he is leaving his fellow MCorsker alone.

By the way don't want to get in trouble again, but his official name is Flash McGee!

Thanks James!
Ive got some amazing updates later, be sure to tune in!!!!

Update 9/15

Well sorry to disappoint, but this is going to be the last of the pics for a while.
I just launched my piece of shizz camera into the drive way.:byebye:
I can't seem to get even a remotely decent picture of anything other than things outside of the flippin tank.

Added Pylei Cebu from QT this morning. I was shocked when he turned from bright red to pale blue after meeting the other fish in the tank. Later came home to see he was back to normal color and cruzing around like he owned the joint!
Pleasant surprise he's also been snacking on my byropsis since I've been home observing.
Picked up a Clown Wrasse today as well as a Red War coral brain, and a Ouliyphia. (I don't want to hear squat about my spelling!) Jk correct me someone!

Then I was fortunate enough to get a personal tour of Paradise Corals by Tomasz!!!
The corals were so bright and colorful I almost needed shades!:still_dreaming: Yeep I am still dreaming of going back.
The good news of this visit is that I was lucky enough to walk away with four of his rediculous ricordea morphs and three different deep water zoo polyps.
The bad news of the visit is that Im not sure if I will ever be able to bring my self to buy corals other than from Tomasz in the future.

I like where you are going with the tank Rob. I'm looking forward to those amazing updates. :)

Thanks Mike! I know it doesn't seem like it, but I am trying to take my time and collect slowly with this tank.

Gotta a couple crappy pics before the camera got launched, I'll post them just for the hay.

Got give my own personal frag a bath first!

Holy crap, just looked over at the tank and now the Royal McCorsker, Flash McGee is now eating the algae with the Pylei (not named yet).
Coooolll!!

New scape, still going to take some rock out for new additions. But its getting there. My algae issue is improving.
