Ups frustration!

ok so i WAS a big supporter of ups (untied postal service!) but after my recent experience i will never ship with them again! i shipped out coral to be next day air that does mean it arrives the next day from when u drop it off right? but i was gurranteed delivery next day air before 10:30am so the next morning its 11:00am and i email the guy i shipped to and ask how was the coral and if it arrived alright and i get a reply saying he didnt recieve them so i checked the tracking and it wasnt even scanned yet and this was the day after i dropped it off for next day air! so i call ups and its still at the store and by know i know all the sps is gone! But then they finally scan it and ship it so the next day it arrives around 12:00 which is 11:00 in the guy recievings time which is still supposed to be their by 10:30 and all sps was dead zoas/palys were melted but some frags made it but still havent opened and i call for a claim and the guy asks me y im even putting in a claim cause it was delivered overnight! how much does shipping insurance usually cost cause i know i got it cause their was a 5$ fee and i filled out paperwork asking how much the package was worth and the date?

Just so you know not one carrier will cover any live species such as coral. Therefore, you may get the shipping cost back but not the cost of the coral. Also, if it was setting at the store I would assume the pick up person did not show or they forgot your box. So, if you dropped of the package at a place that takes FedEx, USPS, UPS and so on then they do not scan the package and you will not have proof to get your shipping cost refunded to you.

Always take your package to the shipping company directly. If you are shipping through UPS then take it to a UPS store or terminal and ask them for a receipt and the same goes for FedEx and USPS. When you ask for a receipt they have to scan the package in order to process a receipt. Otherwise you have no proof that the package ever exist.

Sounds like you done everything correctly. With a receipt you should be able to get the shipping cost back unless they state there were weather conditions.

Sadly,these things happen often..more so with FEDEX for me.. I received a box 1 day after I was suppose to because FEDEX lost it at the sorting facility and it missed the flight......

Almost every FEDEX box I get has 1 DOA with UPS I usually have none..usually. I think the results are strictly regional.

It is stories like this one that makes me wary. I have been lucky with corals via shipping but there are always times like this one. Sorry for you loss, even sorrier for the dead corals.

Well the thing i think is messed up is the guy that i talked to at the store says they shipped it next day air just a day late and so im not getting refunded shipping! The thing that upsets me the most is that all that coral was lost!
I did have to fill out a paper asking how much it was worth and the date and my name i figured that was the gurantee and their was a 5$ fee

Like said above they will not over live animals. Heck they will not even cover equipment! I lost a $1200 skimmer and I had full insurance. They busted it and said I didn't pack it properly. Lost all the money plus the $80 that it cost me to ship.

I was so ticked of wen i first went in i just came home and started thinkin bout it! But rev thats just really not right they shoulda covered it all! Anyone wanna start a strictly live animal shipping company were the packages r handled with care?

I have shipped via fed ex, ups, and usps. They all have their ups and downs. I have had lost packages at some point with all three. On the positive, when USPS broke the reflectors on the ATI sunpower I had shipped to reefgeeks for repair, filing a claim was easy and they paid for the repairs and shipping and I received a check in 2 weeks. In a recent fed ex mishap where the package arrived in the evening, they reimbursed shipping. Fortunately the corals all survived.

They will not reimburse you for live animals. Having shipped many things , I just do all I can do to insure save arrival by triple bagging, shipping in an insulated box,using packing peanuts, using heat pack or ice pack as needed, and waiting until the last pickup time so that often items are only bagged up for 12 hours or so. It makes shipping a little more expensive but well worth it when you consider the price of the corals.

I'm not sure what the heck they do with the boxes but even with those precautions sometimes bags still leak. I used to use urine specimen cups but it seems those would leak too.

Wow man that really sux i ship all my stuff threw usps and i haven't had a problem with them at all, except that sometimes there location for next day aren't really next day if the place they are going is a small town or something. It happen to me once but luckily everything made it.

Definitely UPS's fault...


BUT...

If the package was still at the store when you called to find out what happened, why would you not go pick it up and reship at a later date? Why risk loosing all of the corals?

I actually did ask if i could and im not exactly sure y i couldnt but it was really weird he said its already in the back and it was to late! ( the guy ive been dealing with has been a real *****!)

Fedex had my JF my Miami last year in fedex limbo for like 2 days and amazingly it survived! I preferred UPS for that reason... But I guess not anymore.
