Hello,

Wow I missed a ton lol and I’m still trying to figure out the new site (it’s so nice but taking me forever to find a few things ((it’s because I’m horrible at websites and smart phones)), but anyway lol I’m still catching up with all the posts and they crack me up.

I can say I want to do the Pacfic hwy race again which is I think a 7 day stage race. It’s where you basically ride the entire coast line of California. I probably have to renew my ucf license, as well. I stopped right when I reached a cat 1 but usually in those races they include pro 123 for woman. Men’s though is just usually pro and cat 1. I definitely don’t miss i horrible farmers bike tan lol. Which honestly I still have a little bit. But been way to busy even ride 50 miles not alone more. I do miss the stage races and climbs but really miss the crits and the fun speeds. I’m a horrible sprinter, but I can climb really well and lead a train pretty good (leading a train is when your team mates form a pace line and are supporting the one who has the high speed sprint for the team win or overall win.

Glad you figured it out enough to post. :) I have been worried there are some folks we may never see again. Clicking the little lightning bolt at the top right will take you to a list of latest user posts.

There is a big summer vendor event going on. In a couple of weeks we were told that huge vendor list will be gone from the home page.

Love road bikes. My triathlon bikes are amazing. Let’s Ragbrai a bicycle trek across Iowa!!! I’ve been trying to find some people to do it with.

Hello,

You should come ride the Pacfic hwy 1 from Northern California to San Diego. It’s amazing there is a huge group that does it and not sure if they still do the stage race but that would be fun, the peleton speed is incredible, usually 30-35 mph. Plus the scenery is just gorgeous and lol being oxygen tank lol.

@Katrina71 im so lost on this whole escort thing lol? Isn’t an escort like the little guys that stop traffic for funerals, or are you thinking like a personal armed escort? Never heard someone called an escort before so kinda made me go huh.

@Lasse lol I love your terms of years but if your seven then how old am I, cause with my math I’d be like maybe a few seconds old, lol @JoshH i thought you were my age lol this sounds terrible but your actually errr ahh older than what I envisioned lol. I was thinking 29-30 like @Hemmdog maybe 23-24 on him lol. I know @NY_Caveman he is like my moms age which isn’t old same with @Fin he I think is like my mom and dad somewhere out there. But definitely like @Lasse odes of how to process age. I don’t have a significant other, (even though I have 14 kiddos (fish), but fish don’t really talk to me. They just have a habit of behavior that’s says feed us now. Also @Brew12 lol where have you been and your son how is he? I can’t ever find my own thread under new posts now so I have to go searching for it :). How is your tank and (nice tank @Lasse (grand daughters). Yes I’m trying to catch up lol wow soo much and I have to do updates :) and pics it’s been (my tank has been or is being a drama queen). Now I finally understand the song by Joan Osborne what if god was one of us. Per say playing God more or less with a reef tank isn’t much fun. (Also I do not mean that to offend anyone by using said name), it just happened to be playing while I was trying to figure out how to save some corals and not mess with the men’s doing amazing along with the fish :). But anyways I will post new pics and new and up and coming projects lol.

Try dosing MicrōBacter7 for the ammonia

Hello

Welcome to my thread thanks for reading :). Yes, my nephews decided my sump was a toilet and still try to lol. But I just drained the sump and did water change and added some carbon (if I remember lol) that was quite always back. I can assure you that you will get lots of laughs and hopefully enjoyment since my thread kinda tends to generally be about my 240, but covers most aspects of life and strange things that I go through.

Welcome to R2R by the way and the site is newly updated and great. On here you will find lots of lovely people and believe it or Not some how we all managed to have bob as our uncle. (If your English like me, if one chap says oh looks like bobs your uncle) it means they know what their doing :). But again welcome and feel free to ask for help and really hope you stick cause we miss you :).

Hello Dear friends,

First off for all those in super hot sections of the states stay inside please. It would be heart breaking to have anything bad happen. Boise is finally starting to roast humans also, and it’s been insane. I strongly suggest lots of water shade ac and remember nothing is more important than your life.

I feel whats in order is dicipline. Realy five and peeing in the house in any other spot than toilet....wow they must be some terrors. Sounds like dad slows them to do anything they won't. My kid would be grounded for a month pulling that

Hello,

It’s called life and things happen and everything turned out okay. Yes they should have had more respect etc but ages 3 and 5 how many of us can say we acted like adults instead of kids? I would never ever call them terrors, we have lots of fun and they are adorable and mind very well. I can’t say I’d ground my own child for a month I think that’s like forever for some one that age. Yes my brother was having issues atm and doesn’t excuse his behavior. But he learned from it and that’s what matters. As my tank as thrived, it’s also had its down sides also. But I have myself to blame for those and I simply made a mistake. When this happened yes I panicked because I didn’t know what to do or how long etc. but in reality it wasn’t a big issue other than they learned bathrooms exist in the house for a reason. But I adore my niece and nephews and they may make mistakes but they will always be adorable to me. I don’t have children of my own but have gained experience with them. It should be fair to say that the punishment should fit the act. To me I can maybe see a day or two or making them clean the sump tank.

Hello,

Wow I can’t believe we hit 80,000 for my thread, I really hope I have not bored people to death, if so stick around lol things may get interesting.

Been crazy busy with work which also happened to make my 240 mad at me. I ended up losing my whole huge milipora colony :(, another neat green no name sps colony, and not to mention another huge no name sps colony. No idea what happened except my nitrates went from 2-15, and they were alive one day and totally white the next. Rest of the tank looks good as of the moment.

Waiting to see how many more I lose or will lose, but I tried to reduce the nopox (literally by 4ml) and wow nitrates went crazy. Had to dose back up to 25-30ml to bring it back down. Alk was at 7 ish to 8 ish and calcium was 440, and testing daily hasn’t helped. With my tank going from 1.5 tablespoons of each to a lot more to none other days makes it hard to test daily. I also noticed my temp went up to 80.1 instead of 78-79 where it normally is.

I always find it amusing when I ask my lfs what possibly could be going on, and they shrug and say who knows. It’s really hard to figure out when water parameters are right in the green zone. I mean 15 ppm nitrates isn’t really that much, and phosphates were under .25. Just when I thought I was building the immunity of my tank, lol nope. I always feel so bad when I lose a coral (that’s bad), and even worse with a fish. But still what can you do, I mean what does one do. It happens so fast one can’t make changes quick enough till after it’s good and dead. Between work and studing for orals and exams coming up, I have little time. Which I shall point out, terribly sorry I have not been posting like normal. I usually come home shower, eat and take care of my tank (update my thread and go to bed), lately it’s come home shower, straight to bed. But at least I get the showers in lol. I think so far this week total I have had about 14 hours of sleep. But on the high side I have saved a lot of money by not needing groceries. Down side is hospital food is (free for employees ) terribly expensive for patients and it’s utterly gross. I compare it to drinking a gallon of milk that’s older than 2 months, oh and it’s warm as well. Yeah it’s sad when a hospital can literally ruin an apple (bowl of fruit), or even worse cereal.

Other news, my new tank is being shipped on Monday. Great timing guys lol, when I literally do not have time to make a frozen pizza lol. So I’m really excited to see this massive glass container that I can swim in lol. Yeah let’s reflect for a moment :). I have no stand, (not good), no skimmer, no wave makers or sump or return pumps. I do have four of the mitas ghl x7 leds (those are neat), but I’m kinda not prepared. Not to mention, the silly fact if I’m dumb enough to buy a different house, I’ll have to move two tanks. Yeah I’m a true genius, (it’s sad when I beat Wiley coyote out for this award). Just think Darwin would be so proud of me lol.

You need a team to help. A tank sitter, nutritionist, pizza maker, or maybe just one darn good assistant. Personal intern perhaps?

Hello,

Not that it’s a terrible idea (it’s good it has extreme potential just wouldn’t trust anyone but one lfs guy to even mess w my tank). If I hire a good nutritionist we can mark frozen pizza off the dinner list lol one less thing to worry about. My concern is when would I make it for dinner lol? She may have to be meals on wheels because I spend way more time at work etc then I do anything. Not to mention oral boards and exams are three weeks away. Yet I don’t even know what im studying will be relavent. They change it every year, I know my case files in and out, it’s every thing else. Plus working on oral boards, how to speak, tone to voice, expressions, appearance (obviously in pjs lol nope formal), then getting ready for step three usmle exam. That is the least of my worries, but I have a written exam that takes three days and 8 hours per day with the hospital. This all determines if I get to continue in my program or kick out to the street corner. Again they change it every year and no study guide. At home 70% of my bed are covered with books, notebooks, laptop, (even my favorite pillow is on the floor :(.

I would love to have an amazing assistant lol but they would hate me I’m never home. Yet my parents as much as I adore them, wonder why I’m single lol. They ask me when are you planning on having kids? “Ahhhhh mum, have you seen my work schedule? Good grief child protective services would take them away. Not to mention my closest friend is a blanket and pillow. (Don’t laugh lol it’s something to I can talk to and not be bored to death with, vent to, and finally days when needed a soft shoulder to cry on. But it’s amazing the pillow never yells back or gives me sass lol. Soo off back to work I go lol which I do love (mostly).

Marine biologist/chef roomie? Subside the cost for amazing tank equipment ;)

Hello,

Yes a personal assistant that is in marine biology is awesome. However, I may find them kinda useless because they will be nose deep in all my books. But maybe if they could ahhh speak anything but English,
It would help. I am like theeeee all time best stick figure artist. :)

Hello,

Well dear friends it’s been a crazy few days but hey I guess that’s what happens in your mid 20s. (I don’t mean parties either lol). Well so far updating my 240 tank and I have come to something I should have always known but yeah I was not thinking.

I started doing some research on nutrients, etc etc. some other co workers have salt water tanks so I did a few experiments for fun.
1.) co worker 1). Tank size is 300, dominant sps only, now he has not tested his water parameters in years. Odd I know. So I tested it for the first time, and his nitrates (ready 48ppm) calcium 400 alk 7 salt 1.026 runs 14 hour lights. Has all old colonies no tiny frags. Does water changes once a month. Phosphates about .50
2.) fellow co worker she has a small 40 gallon with lps and softies. Her nitrates were 60 ppm calcium was 550 and alk was 10. Salt was 1.027 phosphates .75 ish
3.) one of my co workers who is on her fellowship, has a mixed reef 125. Her nitrates were 2-5, phosphates under .25 and calcium was 440 and alk 8. Runs leds also.

So my conclusion is that the idea of low nutrients doesn’t always apply. After doing more research and talking more, it seems that corals adapt and change to what their environment is. So makes sense when I change water levels etc why my corals go into shock as much as others. The one thing I did find was they were all consistent in their process. For example my nitrates spiked from 2-5 to 15 because I reduced my nopox by 4ml. Now i should have known better, that reducing an addicting substance, would induce withdrawl affects. However with that said I’m still confused why some lps corals I have had the entire time with my current system, then just go crazy on me. One thing I’d like to work with is corals in distress. In short find away too basically nurse them back to health. Which yes takes time on some, but would be great to have when one of my own corals go up in distress. Love to hear other inputs or thoughts :)

Corals absolutely will adapt if given enough time and the changes are slow enough. IMO, the biggest advantage to running lower nutrients comes when stocking the tank initially. Most corals we get will come from the ocean or from other low nutrient systems. Once the tank is stocked and growing so we aren't buying more coral low nutrients becomes less important.
