UV Sterilizer Plumbing Help

Hello,

I am looking to do hard plumbing for my UV sterilizer and wanted to see if there is anything that I should be aware of to make sure I do it correctly? I read that I should use furniture grade PVC. Is that correct? Also, I am going to have to do 90 degree elbows- is there a problem with doing that? This is my first time so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Don't position the UV perfectly horizontal. If any air builds up in the chamber, you can get a hot spot that can break the quartz sleeve. Nineties are fine. Otherwise, it's like plumbing anything else. Nothing crazy that I can think of.

I would say to make sure and read the manufacturers directions before you install it.
The 2 main things they talk in the instructions are some pretty extensive leak testing before installing the light and electrics. The other is the orientation of the in and out. They need to be positioned so that they fill up completely full of water. The reason for this is because that way everything inside will always be covered in water. If there is any exposed part of the internal wall or other parts with an air bubble trapped, the UV can burn a hole right through it. For this reason, I prefer to position them horizontal with the ports up, so it stays full all the time, even if the pump is off.
You'll be surprised how easy it is to turn off the pump running it, and forget to turn off the bulb.
As for furniture grade PVC, I've never heard that. Don't know why that would be necessary, as that is just PVC that looks nicer on the outside for aesthetic purposes.
