Thanks for the advice! I should have thought to check out Aquarium Co-op for information!

This can also be used as an excuse to drink a few long necks. Since I don't drink, every few years when I need replacement bottles for whatever reason, I buy a six pack of long neck bottles and leave it on my neighbor's porch. A few days later the empty six pack appears on my porch - everybody is happy! When you have long-term neighbors, nothing even needs to be said - true story!

I cultured exactly the way @Peace River did. I tossed my culture when I stopped spawning but now I’ll be looking for another culture since I keep smaller betta fish. Interesting about the reef, though. I’ll be getting some going for that too.

You got me; I had the same question - how do they uncork/unscrew bottle tops? lol

I have no idea what role vinegar eels play, if any, in making vinegar, but the normal way to make vinegar is with bacteria fermenting juice. :)
Correct. The eels/worms eat the bacteria.

I have a bunch of cultures going they are the easiest live food culture along with bbs that I use for raising fish.

A lot of people seperate the eels from the vinegar but I don't worry about it and just feed it like that. The amount of vinegar you will feed is so small, once the culture gets going it gets thick.

LOL, maybe I read it wrong when researching these guys or my sources were wring.... Maybe these guys live in the vinegar after the bacteria has converted it. Haha.

Hey, so will these guys survive in saltwater? And they shouldn't pose any issue for my reef tank? I was hoping to feed them to my Scooter Blenny.

Don't think so; I just throw some into reef when feeding freshwater. My saltwater bottom feeders like frozen bloodworms, btw.

it truly is hard to find out how they get it, isn't it. I searched more and none of the sites mention the mechanism.

I bet its the fruit mass added; when we snack on an apple that was once tied to the earth, we get a few micro worms. every apple, and every banana has infusoria in it as well, I'll bet that's the transfer mechanism/ a solid substrate transfer. most of the vinegar potions for eels I'm reading mention inputting direct fruit portions

No, no idea how they get where they are going............kinda like a lot of reefers feel about their hitchhikers!
