I am about ready to set an XXL 750 against a wall and wanted to see what distance the members of the reef community are setting theirs at.

I hate the wall gap and would love to set it up directly against the wall and come in from the side with power, but I am also a realist and understand I’ll buy a cool light or powerhead that will have a cord the size of a soda can and I’ll be up a creek without a paddle!

Always kept enough room between the wall and tank to be able to efficiently clean behind the stand with cords, sat creep, etc. The stand we had was open in the back though.

I'm barely over 4". I like to be able to get my arm behind the tank to utilize the tunze cleaner.

Ensure that you consider future equipment. You may decided to move your powerheads from the sides to the rear, or you may want to change a lighting fixture. Also, if you decide to paint your home's walls, having the extra space will be nice.
