Hello,

Long time reader first time poster…

We just got a wall hammer for one of our tanks, please see photo, it has been in the tank for two weeks now. We have a few hammers, toadstools, and anemones around the tank and they are all doing good. This wall hammer was wide open at the LFS, but will not open up in our tank. My parameters are good and consistent. I am not sure why he isn’t happy? We even moved him next to a happy hammer thinking the light or flow was off, but he closed up even more.

Any thoughts to help are much appreciated!
Thanks!

What are your nitrates and phosphates, and salinity readings?

Alk and Calcium while you're at it.

Is the next door euphyllia touching/stinging it?

I thought it kind of looks like its hurting and getting ready to grow a full head of bacteria, aka BJD?

Thank you all for jumping on this! Parameters… Hannah checkers
Temp: 26.5C
Salinity: 34.1ppt
Alk: 8.0
pH: 8.0
Ammonia: 0.02
Nitrate: 1.99 ppm
Nitrite: 57 ppb
Phosphate: 0.00 ppm
Calcium: 537. I can’t get this down. Worries me.
Don’t have magnesium. Checker is on the list.

What’s BJD?

Oh and we just moved him next to the other hammer 2 days ago. They haven’t touched at all.

Thank you KrisReef!
Quite the write up.
What is the reason you see in the pictures it is BJD? His colors look ok to me…? And he doesn’t have and brown mucus..?
Where would I get Ciprofloxacin, it’s not over the counter?
Have you done this method before?
