ok here is my war plan (in progress) on MARINE VELVET...
had a Achilles..FlameAngel..GemTang..Emperor..PowderBlue die (see other post we posted here) As I got prity convinced it was Marine Velvet (powderblue last victim was covered in the dust layer)
So what did I do and do you guys think this would get the system completely cleaned out ...
- removed all fish to a QT tank with copper resistant fish under Cupramine and the not so copper resistant fish into CP...
- removed all the rock and water
- currently rock out of the water in the sun (Thailand)
- Sand discarted
- system filled up with fresh water and flushing now for 3 days
- now where I am not sure as I had some PVC inlet that is covered in life rock so that is now soaking in fresh water for 3 days (can anything VELVET survive this?
- plan is to remove fresh water tomorrow (day 4) and return rock and Saltwater to start a new (sped up cycle adding bacteria and using fresh (UV treated) ocean water)..planning letting it run 2-3 weeks before any fish gets returned in it.

So how close to 100% you guys think I will have eradicated anything to do with VELVET in the system

Never heard of fish being copper resistant. The fish listed are indeed susceptible to velvet and pics under white, not blue lighting would be helpful but it were ich, treatment is similar. Assuming CP is Copper Power, all fish listed are treatable with copper Power which is a safer and chelated form of copper versus Cupramine which is Ionic and a little more potent. You want to run copper Power at 2.25ppm for a full 30 days at 2.25ppm and cupramine also at 30 days at .45 ppm (max is .5)
I see you took rock and sand out of what I assume is the display tank. Technically, you could leave/have left it in the display tank with the bacteria established and ran the tank without fish for 6-8 weeks in which velvet and ich would die off without a fish to host on and ready for restock.
You plan on resetting tank and that is acceptable.

- with copper resistant i mean they can take copper better then others
- I am using Cupramine
- CP I meant Chloroquin Phosphate
- thought removing rock and sand would spead up the extermination with several weeks.

I would treat all fish in Cupramine or cp for 30 days. I’d prefer coppersafe because you could run all fish through that and skip the second tank with cp.

Soak all tank decorations and equipment for three days in freshwater. Items like sand and coral rock may need a water change to get any salt inside to leech out.

Then, air dry those items - that may take a week, depending on humidity.

- coppersafe is not available in Thailand..only bit safe product available here is Cupramine. CP is available in pharmacies in 250mg tablets.
- so you think air dry the rock is not enough? soak first in fresh water first too?

Im not keen on CP and I do know as you stated, your region is limited on medications and as Jay also suggested- stick with cupramine and treat at .45 ppm to allow for test error. Yes on freshwater for dry rock then air dry.

Yes - soaking in FW to kill parasites and to get all the salt residue out and then air drying is best.

interesting
so what about parasite in the egg stage on possible rock...do they die off in fresh water?

There are a variety of cysts and eggs for fish parasites that vary in their resistance to drying and to freshwater. It is best to soak in freshwater for 24 hours and then dry well for three days. That works for everything except possibly tapeworm eggs and coccidea .
