first off im from across the pond in the uk my tank is 60inches x 27 inch tall x 24inch front to back. i made my own stand for the tank, originaly it was going to be a 48x24x24 inch tank. id pretty much finished the stand off and i called into my lfs who where getting rid of there old display tank which as far as i knew was sold. while there they had a phone call saying the other person didnt want the tank so they offered it to me for £100 it needed a new stand which i already had but needed to modify as it was 5ft long not 4ft. so i thought why not for £100 its worth taking. the tank needed a bit of work doing to it, i polished out some scratches on the front glass and re did the silicone on the inside as it had been caught by a razor while cleaning.
heres the stand i was building for the 4x2x2 tank,
heres the tank in my lfs and some pics of it in the garage at home:
had to do some modifications to the stand so had to pull it apart to add 12inches on to one end so the tank would fit and also give me some extra room underneath.
heres the overflows for the tank, never seen anything like these before and after 18months of running it i know why.....its noisy! grey pipes are the overflows to sump white pipe is return from the sump
heres the plumbing bits and silicone to reseal the inside of the tank
all the old silicone has been removed and cleaned with acetone
masked off cleaned again with acetone ready for the new silicone to be applied.
silicone done looks ok apart from the bottom which is burried under the sand so not too worried.
made the decision to prop up the floor under the tank using 6x3 timber on the bottom and uprights then 6x2 timber onto the floor joists
leak test prior to moving into poistion no issues atall
heres the tank its replacing it was 3ft x 2ft deep x 18inch tall
old tank with new lights above ready for the move
tank and stand in place
