The tank is chugging along nicely, I spend the evenings with coral viewing glasses and sometimes forget to take them off :D. I have started to increase UV, violet and royal blue from the AI Blades, and increased also the dosing of TM A/K (although still considerably lower dose than recommended). Its either increased light, traces, zeovit mulm or ammonium/urea mix which has increased the pop - difficult to say, but looks ok.

Found also much better smell compared to green bali slimer or Microbe-Lift Special Blend (and wondering if anyone is dosing the latter daily).

Ordered some new frags from Leonardo's Reef, after that it will be just waiting for the sticks to grow - orange glasses on, and smelling the coral fantasy :D

One additional modification to "zeoreactor" - connected a small Tunze return pump hose connector to the other end of the tubing. This washes rocks pretty nicely when turned on (currently every 3h).

IMG_5893.jpeg

Also, AI Blades now at 10K schedule during the day (with Straton all channels full at 50%). The overall color look pretty ok (no filters).

How do you like the Flexes; do you think a single flex bar provides enough coverage for a 48x24 area, or are the blades still needed to fill in shadows?

I would say it completely depends on a personal preference (if one likes some shaded areas on the edges etc.) and which corals one wants to grow. In a LPS- or even in a mixed reef tank, one Flex (depending on tank dimensions) would most likely be sufficient.

The reason I have Blades is that I originally had them and did not want so sell right away, and they also give some extra pop when added to Flex. At this point when most of the SPS frags are still pretty small, there is not enough shading in the sand I have to run the Blades on a really low setting (not to fry LPS on the sand) especially during the day. With those dimensions you mentioned, you could also go with two Straton Pro 102s, or 153s.

Thanks for the response! I ended up grabbing 2x Flex 102s for a 48x36 area. For some reason I thought your opus was 48”, is it the 36” model instead?

One of the best hacks you can do to keep your corals happy - DIY biobollocks. Very good PE after replacing (usually between 1-2 weeks) the ball. The juice from the Nature's Ocean Live sand (https://naturesocean.com/aquarium-supplies/live-sand.html) is something magical.

I make these using the good old pantyhose trick, considering chancing the title of the tank :D IMG_6038.jpeg

For those who run AI Neros, it might be worthwhile to check the backside of the pump. The back plate of one of the Nero 5 just popped of, and it turns out the whole thing is full of rust. The same with all the four pumps, even though the plastic plate was attached - the insides were all rusted.
IMG_6281.jpeg

Instead of trying to hassle with the warranty (a little over year old pumps), I decided to fix these myself. I glued the whole thing with cyanoacrylate, and this will hopefully cover the rust and fix the issue. I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed to the build quality. Just wondering how many hobbyists are running rust in to their tanks - without knowing.
IMG_6464.jpeg IMG_6465.jpeg IMG_6466.jpeg

Meanwhile, I ordered two DMP-40s, they seem to do their job really well - the only annoyance are the small snails which end up easily inside the pump. Maybe I just end up putting some of the "fixed" Neros to give so flow from the back wall.
IMG_6467.jpeg IMG_6468.jpeg

Also, looks like Ecoflow River 2 Max can run one of the DMPs for 20h if needed - nice.

Nyos Quantum 120 did a great job for the first two years, but decided to upgrade to Bubble King Mini 160. The skimmer fits nicely to the sump, and there is still room for a kalkstirrer and carbon & zeovit bags. Might be moving the UV next to skimmer, would be easier to clean everything at once. I might end up going with the recirculating srub mode, let's see. IMG_6692.jpeg IMG_6691.jpeg

The frags are growing nicely, a few night shots with one daylight pic for a reference :)

Recirculating CO2 scrubber now done, looks like this is very nice approach to give small pH boost (now 8.2-8.4). The RE anti-smell cups contain carbon (for ozone and nasty smells), and some CO2 scrubbing media in case there is any air intake from lid holes to the circulation.
