My wife and I have been looking at getting a peninsula tank for a few years now, after much debate between a custom tank, a Red Sea 650 and the Waterbox 7226 we decided to go with the Waterbox. We have been documenting my REEFER 250 build and progress since the beginning and it is now time to add to our tank family.

The tank has been ordered and is on its way. The area has been picked out. Out with the old 25G IM and in with the new big boy.

We have decided to bring the tank out from the wall in order to add a short equipment cabinet between for all controlling equipment. We did the same idea on our Red Sea and it worked out perfect. The build list is in place and the tank will be SPS dominant. As the build gets closer and the tank arrives, I will list equipment that will be used as well as more pictures. STAY TUNED!

Can I ask why you went with waterbox over red sea?

I did a side by side comparison on paper of the two tanks. I chose the waterbox because I wasn’t fond of how the Red Sea has a 4” higher total height. My wife and I are both relatively short. The waterbox also has a display that is 9 gallons larger and has a much larger ATO reservoir. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Reefer 250 and Red Sea makes a solid product. I hadn’t found any bad reviews on Waterbox so I figured I would give them a try.

Just looked through your reefer 250 build, will you be moving that equipment to the new tank? Going to add more radions or another light option?

No, I do not plan on moving any of the equipment over. I will utilize the red sea’s PAR meter when I need for the other tank with a long BNC cable. But everything will stay intact. The new tank will get new equipment setup. I plan on putting 4 Radions over the peninsula. I have no intention of tearing don’t the 250 after the 7226 is cycled

UPS strikes again. Tank was scheduled for delivery on Monday took time off work so I would be home and of course they didn’t come or call. After the purposed delivery time had passed I called and they confirmed that the tank was still sitting on the docks and would be deliver next day. We received the tank last night and like a little kid a Christmas I started going to work.
I have only seen a few people on here with this style tank and I have talked to several people who have questions on what the cabinet looks like on the inside as well as sump design and so forth. I figured I would take as many detailed pictures as possible for others looking into this style of tank or interested.

I noticed that Waterbox does not include detailed instructions like other cabinets I have seen. But if you have assembled cabinets like this before it’s all the same.

As I stated at the start of this thread, the plan was to bring the tank out from the wall and make flush with the small room divider wall and place a equipment cabinet between the tank and wall for all my apex and drivers. I wasn’t sure if the cabinet space under the tank would be sufficient for a controller and the calcium reactor. I decided to wait and purchase the equipment cabinet until the tank was assembled and had a better look. Ordering that equipment cabinet today, it will have the same design as the one I build for my Red Sea.

Another question that arose was the look of the return plumbing. I am looking to hard plumb the return pump. However Waterbox has all their plumbing preassembled with a hose barb and the tanks come with the flex hose. I contacted Waterbox and they stated that they receive all their plumbing pre-glued so there is no way for them to send me a new piece that does not have a barb. So now to the drawing board to see how I can remove the barb and glue without compromising the “T” fitting.

All that is left is to get the man power over to get the tank from the garage into the next room and then I can start the plumbing.

Finally had some extra man power come over to help move the tank from the garage onto the stand.

Once I was able to get all the factory plumbing in place, I started planning how I wanted to run the return and the plumbing for the calcium reactor. I was able to use the heat gun trick and remove the barb from the “T” fitting. Now it’s time to sit on my hands for a week and wait for all my plumbing to come in.

Still waiting on the plumbing to come in, won’t be here till mid week. Decided to go ahead and install the cabinet lighting. I really like the lighting I have in my other tank however this cabinet has a whole lot more real estate so I had to find a larger solution. I found some really nice ones on amazon. Please excuse the hanging wires. Not ready to do cable management just yet.

Also removed the wheel and valves the other day to make a color change.

Equipment cabinet came in and was assembled. Perfect fit! Now time to start planning equipment placement in the back of the cabinet.

Nice build . Where did you pick up the small cabinet for the electric equipment.

Short update, been pretty busy with work so not much progress on the build. Plan on knock a lot out today though. Finish plumbing for calcium reactor, hang lighting rail, place rock in tank and secure in place, build back board for equipment cabinet and start marking out module placement and install a few other pieces of equipment in the sump.
