Hey folks , I’m one of the people who couldn’t resist the waterbox labor day sale and purchased a new Infinia 230.6 tank. It’s a 180 gallon tank with internal overflow and a 50 gallon sump. This will be my third addition to my reef family. I also have a 100 gallon IM ext 100 and a waterbox cube 20 which are both mixed reef tanks. I was planning to start this build at the end of this year but with waterbox sale and some sales going on for other equipment I decided to get it started sooner.

Compared to my 100 gal this tank is a beast and with the sump being all glass it is heavy enough to require 2 people to lift it. The display took 4 strong guys to get it put on the stand.

For lighting I am going with 3 Orphek Natura icon lights. I built a custom tslot mount which allows me to adjust the height and move the lights forward or back to perform tank maintenance. There’s also room to add more lights or light bars if needed.

My mixing station , auto top off reservoir and dosing pumps will be located in the basement so I am able to utilize the entire space next to the sump for a wiring cabinet. All of the controllers will mount on the front of the cabinet with all the wire management inside the cabinet.

This past weekend I got the tank placed on the stand and finished building my mixing station

I am waiting on some metric pvc parts to arrive today so I can make the modification to the drain pipe to lengthen (to reduce the flow noise everyone complains about with it being too short) as well being able to connect to the roller mat. For equipment I am going with the following

Lighting: 3 Orphek Natura Icon
Return Pump: Sicce Syncra SDC 9
Skimmer: Reef Octopus Elite 200-INT
Filtration: RedSea Reefmat 1200
Power heads; 2 Maxspect Gyre XF350 pumps with a Hydros LE wave engine.
Heater: BRS titanium 600 watt with InkBird controller
Main Controller: Apex A3 Pro with DOS pumps for dosing and auto water changes.
ATO: Apex ATK ( using this on my other tank for several years now and it works great)

My plan is for this to be an SPS dominated tank with mainly anthias, tangs, wrasses and some other utility fish.

I’m hoping to start filling the tank up with water and sand this weekend. More updates to follow, thanks for following along and any feedback is welcome!

I got a lot done this past weekend. The plumbing is completed and most of the equipment in the sump is installed.

The wiring cabinet is working out great to organize all the craziness of wires. This will really make it easy to add or replace components and I have separated out the probe wires so they don’t get electrical interference.

The tank has now been running with freshwater for a day. I need to get better clamps for the return pump hose. The plastic clamps that come with the tank don’t seal very well.

Almost ready for salt mix and sand!

Very sharp looking tank and sump, I am really starting to like Waterbox.

The sump is pretty awesome. Im not sure I could have picked out better one myself to use for this tank. The leveling feet on the stand are really nice too. My only major complaint is that the side panels on the stand are not removable once the stand is placed on top. Overall I’m pleased with the quality so far.

Got the saltwater mixed and sand added this past weekend. I added 140 lbs of sand but I feel like it probably needs another 40 lbs. At this point I am just waiting for some live rock to be available from one of the vendors in Florida.

So I have this same tank and I have noticed the sump s very loud. I am wondering if I have done something wrong. My first issue is how the returned water from the display spills over the entire length of the sump. Is this correct? It is splashing a lot and loosing spray/water out of the back side of the sump.

Wow, what flow rate is your return pump running at? It looks to me like your filter socks are not able to handle the rate of the flow going through them so it is backing up in the rear chamber and overflowing everywhere. Is the return pump flow rate adjustable? Also, how often are you cleaning / replacing your filter socks?
I would try temporarily removing the filter socks just to see if the rear chamber overflow stops. If it does, then you'll need to figure out how to dial down your return pump flow or consider alternate options to using filter socks (if using them at all). I have a waterbox 20 AIO cube and I had to ditch using filter socks on it because it starts backing up within a few days and changing out / cleaning filters socks that frequently is a total pain.

As you can see in my pics I am using a RedSea ReefMat 1200 on the 230.6 so I dont need to use the rear chamber of the sump. The main flow is routed directly to the filter sock chamber instead and the ReefMat 1200 is capable of handling flow of up to 2380 gph. That being said I feel like I made a mistake of going way overkill on my return pump which is a SDC Syncra 9.0 capable of up to 2500 gph. I am finding that in order for the flow to be quiet on this tank I have to run it at about 40% which is about 1000 gph. That is still a 5x turnover rate per hour and plenty enough for this system.

Did you remove the ATO from the sump?

I'm strongly considering this to replace my RedSea G1, and the only "issue" I really see is that they didn't leave much room for equipment.... like, I don't think my apex DOS units would fit in there

Yes, the ATO reservoir is just a separate glass box and I’m not using it because I have a 44 gal trash can in the basement that stores my ATO water. With just the sump under the stand you will have a 2x2 foot section for equipment which is quite a bit of room.

My ATO currently is on the livingroom floor, which is not wife approved, and I have no where else to put it.... So I can't use the ATO room for equipment sadly! Thanks for replying though, was curious!

Did you ever figure out the overflow issue?
