FTS as of 7-13-21

As is tradition for me, new year, new tank.

I recently came across a deal I couldn't pass up on an 150G Crystal Dynamics peninsula tank to replace my 90G Elos. The Elos has some scratches that are hard to get past and i'm not much of a fan of the older style overflow on the tanks.

The tank is 48L x 30W x 24T I absolutely love the dimensions on this tank and even tho it's not that much larger than the Elos it feels 3 times bigger, I love the wide footprint of the tank.

I have been inspired by several SPS tanks that I have seen lately and will be doing a full on bonsai style aquascape intended for SPS only, no LPS or softies will be in this tank.

Luckily all the equipment from the old tank will be more than adequate for this tank and the sump and all the filtration will easily transfer over to this build with the exception of possibly adding an additional radion xr30 due to the width of this tank.

The tank will be going where the existing one currently is. I am currently waiting for rock to show up so that I can scape the tank, drain the elos, transfer fish and coral to my lagoon QT tank and then fill the new tank.

Thanks for checking it out! Next update should be Sunday and hopefully will be with a filled tank!

Congrats on the new tank! I love the dimensions. I've been eyeing a 225g from Crystal Dynamics, but I really like that 150.

A store local to me always carries them and every time I look at them I am so impressed with the work they do. The glass clarity is out of this world.

Same here - I live in the Bay Area and any time I stop by my LFS I make it a point to stare at the 225s they have on display. My wife likes them too, which is a huge plus!

I look forward to seeing your tank progress.

We must both be talking about Neptunes then haha, I am from Sac and I work in the bay sometimes and always stop in there.

Aquascape done, shout out to El for coming over and doing some rockwork.

The finished scape. About 40lbs of Marco rock and emarco.

Of course we had to break for lunch, buddy agreed to come scape the tank if I paid in smoked meats so...

Got the old elos broken down and sent off with a buddy of mine, I forgot how much work moving a tank around is.

Aquascape in, tank plumbed! Now just waiting on about 40 more gallons of water to fill the sump, get water moving. And move all the equipment back into the sump. I almost got my downstairs back!

Took a few weeks of raising the skimmer almost completely out of the water due to it overflowing like crazy. Have slowly lowered it back down into the sump and it's pulling rock dust out like crazy.

Summer time update!

Tanks doing fantastic after a series as what I can best describe as "all the cycles" one week it was cloudy bacteria, a week later it was green water, then algae that would cover the glass within minutes.

I let it do it's thing through all of it and only finally did it's first 70 gallon water change about a week ago.

Tester sps frags showed great color and growth, with that in mind I decided to go ahead and add a large batch of sps frags thanks to a awesome local hobbiest.

Enough talk, have some pictures.

Very clean. Good looking tank. Do you know the par number near the left and right edge of your aquascape? My up coming tank is 60x30x21. I'm thinking, use the same light setup 4t5 with xr15. thanks

Tank looking fantastic, loving the peninsula style tanks, don't think I can ever go back to a traditional tank on a wall.

All the SPS I added are doing fantastic, not a single loss! Most of them are encrusted onto the rock work and seem happy.
