Over the last week or 2 I've noticed a film on the water surface of my reef tank. Any ideas as to what it is and why it's there?

oils and proteins prob. you need more surface agitation, better yet an overflow. you can also get a surface skimmer thing too to help but more surface agitation is probably good enough.

I don't mean a protein skimmer if that's what you have. it is a dedicated surface skimmer suck in the surface scum and oils. maybe consider running a sump so you have an overflow. that'll take care of it for good lol

Gotcha! I'll look into the surface skimmer because I dont have the space for a sump at the moment but trust me I'm working on it lol
