Weird growth into tank seam?

I feel like if you're going to go with a sump, might as well make the back wall as flat as possible, so I would want the EXT.

Well, going to sleep on this one and place an order tomorrow. Petsmart also has their 55gal breeders for $89.99 near me (normally $170), likely going to order a Fluval Tidal and take my spare heater out of my 55gal to get it up to temp.. Absolute worst case I'll toss all of the fish and coral into a couple of 5gal buckets for a day or 2 while the holding tank gets setup.

Something about the flat back, back sleek overflow and dual returns on each side... external overflow tanks are the way to go.

Innovative Marine is a solid choice.

I'd go EXTERNAL overflow all day. It's a much nicer, cleaner look inside the tank. Yes, the tank then can't sit right up next to the wall, but that can be a good thing if (when) some piece of gear falls behind the tank and you can't reach it. And, you can easily DIY and "box in" the back external overflow box. Internal overflows just take up too much room in the display, in my opinion.

There was a similar thread a while back (and maybe more than one?):

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/an-unidentified-worm-seems-to-be-eating-my-silicone.977474/
I believe the hypothesis was the worm was burrowing through a weak point. . .
I saw the original thread we are all talking about, and now this, but holy cats! I have never seen anything like this before today on R2R. Were both these tanks a Red Sea? I can't imagine even a bristle worm burrowing through silicon. I wonder if indeed there was already some kind of "weak point" in the seam that animal was able to exploit.

In the thread I posted it was "This is a 25g lagoon style tank from Innovative Marine". And close ups in that thread seemed to indicate that worm was a bobbit worm or similar.

Yeah I’ve all but sold myself on it. The current tank isn’t flat against the wall anyway, so this won’t be a downgrade of any kind. Having the sleek interior is a bonus.

Oh yeah... I'd throw this sand out just to make sure you don't transfer whatever burrowed into the silicone into the new tank.

Sand will be replaced for sure. Do you foresee any issues with reusing the rock? I’d rather avoid as much of a fresh cycle as possible to minimize the amount of time I have to keep a breeder on the floor in my office haha.

I went digging with a flashlight after posting this. It’s difficult to see in the photos, but there’s a clear weakness in the silicone along the front edge that overhangs. I’d be willing to bet that the overhang may be the culprit on some of these tanks and shoddy silicone. I can’t complain too much, I got this tank for a steal of a deal used (was dry less than a week) and it’s served me quite well over the last 3 years. I won’t jump on the Red Sea hate wagon, things happen it’s just a really unfortunate situation as it’s a significant investment and living creatures are at stake.

Difficult to make out, but there’s a clear crack along the seam.

Don’t judge my gross sand.

I don't see any problems with reusing the rock.

Likely due to the size difference, I’ll probably throw another 30-40lbs of Marco rock in there too. May try to cycle it, but we’ll see. Clock is ticking!

First of all, I just purchased and I am trying to build an IM 25 lagoon as a frag tank lol!

And the dreaded bobbit worm, of course! (No Lorena jokes; different spelling; just as scarry lol!)

I think I'm going to change my R2R user name to "Bobbit Worm Hater" lol ;-)

EDIT:
@BristleWormHater I hope you know I'm just joking around :)

Shockingly enough, in the 3 years this tank has been up I've yet to have a single bristle!

Now time to make the decision... Going to go with an Innovative Marine - do I go with the INT 100 or EXT 100?

INT lets me get it closer to the wall, but I lose some internal space for the overflow (it ships end of December), EXT would have the tank roughly in the same distance from the wall as the RSR 250 is but would have more internal space (it ships end of November).

Lets hear them opinions!
Get a good exterminator to lay down a good bug barrier in the new tank in case you transfer those silicone termites during the process.

I sure hope it doesn't let go before you are ready! GL.

Ladies and gentleman, the Rodney Dangerfield of R2R lol! He can't turn it off lol!

I hope you know I'm just joking, and Dangerfield was a heck of a comic ;-)

Thanks for the laugh here and everywhere!

Man, this thread is bringing the "salty" out in me, no pun intended lol!

Sorry guys, it's all in jest :)
