Weird growth into tank seam?

I have no idea what this is, or how concerned I should be… any thoughts/advice is appreciated.

Should I be planning for the worst and look into buying a new tank…?

This is not supposed to happen. Looks like you have termites in the silicone and you need an exterminator.

Yes, not termites but the tunnel damage is similar. I never thought I would see this happening in a reef, silicone seam.

I believe I read about a case back in the day where ants ate through the silicone on an aquarium but since this is the inside, that’s not it. But still a crazy story and whatever has happened here looks crazy. Like something burrowed its way through the silicone

Unfortunately I think the silicone is separating (you can see some discoloration). And some opportunistic creature is taking advantage of ease of entry. If this is the case you might not have a lot of time. Hopefully it holds together for you while you sort it out

Well, hit me with your tank manufacturers. I'll be picking up a breeder tank as a temp holding and will start breaking down this system ASAP. Going to keep a few 5g buckets of premixed salt hanging around in case the worst happens so I can get the critters out of there safely.

I have five IM tanks, I really like them. If I had the money, I'd go Glass Cages hands down.

This happened to me before. For about 6 months I would watch it grow longer and longer until it made its way to the bottom and started leaking. Fortunately for me, it was a very slow leak and I caught it immediately.

Shockingly enough, in the 3 years this tank has been up I've yet to have a single bristle!

Now time to make the decision... Going to go with an Innovative Marine - do I go with the INT 100 or EXT 100?

INT lets me get it closer to the wall, but I lose some internal space for the overflow (it ships end of December), EXT would have the tank roughly in the same distance from the wall as the RSR 250 is but would have more internal space (it ships end of November).

Lets hear them opinions!

Both have sumps. I'm looking at the complete reef systems.

I'm a big fan of the sump layout on these. Having a fuge built into it + the 8gal reservoir for the ATO would be great.
