Hey Reef2Reef Fam! Sorry for the hiatus, we had to get some things squared away before we were ready to come back on here. We believe you have to earn it every day, and we began deploying that process in our farm at the beginning of this year. The results speak for themselves. If you take great care of the corals and grow them well, the sales take care of themselves. Suffice to say, things have been going great!
We have many dedicated farming systems online. Here are some shots of how its going at the farm.
This shot is from our main coral room, we have over 6 coral farm systems in this room as well as two huge Fish Towers (can't see them too great as they are in the back of the shot). The two huge fish towers are where we quarantine and hold our large fish like Tangs, Triggers, Foxface and others.
This shot is our 60x60 Zoanthid Farm system named Prometheus. It is where we farm and do a lot of work with our Zoanthids and Palys. You can also see our sweet fragging station in the background! The lights on this system are mounted on the moon (like 3 feet above the water lol) but we have 4 Neptune Sky's running at 100% all blue and we also have an 8 light 640W T5 Array 6 blue plus 2 actinic which gets us about 200 par on the racks. This is really the only tank we run T5s on.
This shot is of our Montipora Farm System that we call Melo (pronounced Me Low). It is a 8'x3' trough that consumes an awful lot of ALL FOR REEF every day!
This is a shot of our Low Light farm system called LoLo. It is also 8'x3' and mostly Chalice and Cyphastrea end up in here but also some favias, platys, cynarinas, acanthos as well. Sometimes we experiment with other corals that may desire less light. Sometimes we find that the corals can handle quite a wide variety of light levels. Some chalices like more light than you'd think! This system has had its struggles and ups and downs. Like all of them, it takes some wranglin' to get it just right. We're definitely in a good spot now!
Here is a shot of Tank 1 of our main 700 Gallon Farm System we call Optimus Prime. This tank is 8'x4' acrylic tank. In this tank we keep a lot of euphylias, hammers and torches which we don't really 'farm' per-say but we condition, clean, frag and work with them. We also frag and farm a lot of Goniopora and Micromussa in this tank. Some other corals make it in here like mushrooms (under the racks) and softies/leathers, some chalices or any coral we want to experiment with in one of our best performing systems.
This systems take a 400ml per day Dose of ALL FOR REEF and it can REALLY suck down the Alkalinity. That is because Tank 2 of Optimus Prime is our Acropora Farm System.
Here is a shot of the 2nd tank that makes up Optimus Prime. Another 4'x8' Acrylic Farm tank full of ONLY sps. Mainly acropora but some other species like Montipora & Porites. This tank has an array of 6 Kessil Lights mounted about 24" above the water. We run the lights at 100% Intensity with a bit more white spectrum then any of our other tanks receive. We just like the way whites make Acro's look
This is a shot of 2 of the 4 tanks that make up our 300 gallon Anemone system that we call Nemos. All that is kept in these tanks are Bubble Tip Anemones. They are very happy in here and reproduce often. We have found that it is difficult to put any other anemones in this system with any success. We are not sure if that is because of the sheer amount of BTA's releasing some sort of chemical to deter other species but we have found it best to just leave it all BTA. We have another other system coming online soon to handle LTA's and other types.
Here is a shot of our Nirvana Farm Tank. We only farm Nirvana Zoanthids out of this tank it is a 40 gallon breeder, we also keep a few random mushrooms and very special bounce mushroom in this tank.
This is a shot of our second Zoanthid System called Shangri-La. It's one of our smallest farm systems at 3'x2'. It is being lit by new AI Blades which the Zoanthids seem to really love. We like them too! We are getting about 225 par at the racks in here. We try to separate certain Zoanthids from the other system and grow them out in here. It's a work in progress as we increase our collection of farmed zoanthids. On the dark wall to the left you can see our CUC system which houses tons of snails, hermits and other clean up crews. The white lights for the snail system were shut off for this shot. You can also spot 4 DICE NANO tanks which we use as medical treatment tanks for fish and/or Corals as needed.
In my office I have managed to also stuff an array of 40 gallon breeders which we mostly use for farming soft corals and leathers. Here is a shot of 2 of them!
We have grown a lot over the last 3 years and we've also learned a lot! We're not sure if we were really a 'farm' for the first 24 months, or just an infamous Chop Shop, but we're confident that we are farming the right way now. If you haven't checked us out in a while or you haven't ever before, now is the best time! We'll be uploading tons of new farmed corals over the coming weeks in preparation of Black Friday and there will be plenty of great opportunities to shop with Reef Chasers before Christmas!
Also, we are looking forward to doing weekly Reef2Reef specials via a hidden collection on our website. Each week we will be posting a handful of corals at crazy deal prices and posting the links to them right here in our sponsor forum. We'll start with the first batch tomorrow!
