In my opinion, the tomini tang is one of the most bland tangs there is and I don’t get why people like them so much. Can I get an explanation for why people would chose them over something like a two spot bristletooth?

ANYWAY! Now I look like a crazy person. I don’t understand how my post that quoted you changed when you edited YOUR post? It never did that before.

Okay. Here’s my opinion (don’t kill me guys). The bristletooth tangs are UGLY! All of them (except the white tail bristletooth). I think the main reason why people have them is because they are really good at eating nuisance algae. Some of the fancy tangs prefer their prissy nori on a sea clip. The bristletooths aren’t afraid to get dirty for some scraps of micro algae.

The chevron is very nice (even as an adult).

My Tomini has a great personality for a worker bee fish. He's social, picks on his fair share of other fish, some 2-3x his size, and is a great citizen. Mine has an orange tail and dorsal fin. Actually, one of the prettier fish I've seen in the hobby...
I'd easily add him over some of the other tangs.

It’s okay I guess.I think the chevron has an underwhelming glow-down as an adult. I guess we all do, but that fish…it’s just not fair.

They are hardy, do some actual work, are fairly disease resistant for a tang and do not carry a huge price tag compared to some. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so to each their own. IMO, the chocolate mimic is the best looking tang and most others would not agree, so there you go...

I want a tang as a centerpiece of a 75, that’s why. Only limited to the bristletooths and maybe the one spot fox face which is controversial

And I prefer the Scopas :) Many also call it bland. Go figure. As you said there are some fish that are great utility and have a personality as well.

Tominis have always been in my top 3 tangs, (gem > purple > tomini). The black/orange/white tail is an awesome combination. Also in my experience their aggression is much lower than other tang types.

I like mine. It is a nice looking tang, imo. It never stops picking at the rocks. I like the color combo it has.
I also have a Convict tang that alot of people think the same of.
White with black stripes. It eats nori out of my hand and is always on the move. It also keeps my 6 blue green chromis in line.
It is the tank policeman, lol.

We all do....but I have to say that I was stunned the first time I saw an adult Chevron in person. A bit like arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin though at this point. Good luck getting one.

I liked my tomini more as a juvi. The kole tang has many spots that look awesome under blues.

They are hard-working they are reasonably docile, they get along well with like tanks (I have a flame fin and a blue-eyed bristle tooth and they get along great) and they don’t outgrow your tank as fast. As appearance there Is beauty in lots of animals in the world that don’t need to be garish to be outstanding. Look at a Rufus sided towhee as example
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
