Ammonia has some kind of trick that will tank phosphates it’s really weird! I can only imagine it’s the corals taking it up but that’s just my guess! Plenty of reports in Randy’s ammonia dosing thread of p04 tanking once starting ammonia and my tank was one of them.
Same here, mine staying around 0.3 on average with 0 Nitrates but the corals look good and are growing.

Didn't know that. I just started back with ammonium bicarb. When its really acro heavy..I'm sure you see it too..the corals just inhale nutrients..lol.

Wow. Maybe that is better than dosing LC to lower PO4.

They eat it.

With so many options out there today what are you dosing and why? It seems there’s more and more people successful today with sps tanks then 10 years ago! My tank is simple just top off with kalk and dose all for reef.. I also dose ammonia now to help keep nitrates up and a couple drops lugols every other day or so just cause I always see icp tests come back with low iodine for others.. I’m not into dosing tons of things and could care less what a icp test tells me about my tank as my corals grow and color just fine… I was dosing tons of bacteria and carbon dosing but my doser broke and I didn’t really notice a difference so I quit! I do add zeobak to diy coral snow after every water change which is normally 2-3 weeks but that’s about it! I know there’s lot of moonshiners out there with a lab but what else are people seeing positive results with?!?
ive been keeping acros for about 5 months now.i started moonshiners about a month ago. Ive started with manganese, chromine, and cobalt. and I can already tell a difference in PE. so I say for me I already see results with just those 3 elements.

120 gallon with 40 gallon frag tank tie in and 40 gallon sump.
I dose 4150 ml of Kalk mainly at night via dose pump.
30 ml of AFR a day via dose pump
Reef Moonshine dailies and corrections after monthly ICP
15 ml NOPOX a day

I bet we could DIY FM RTN/STN X for far less for those that may want to test it.

They share the ingredients:
Water, zinc, chelators, and pyridine-2-thiol-1-oxide

Dosing zinc is easy enough on its own. Finding the last ingredient may be the harder part. @Randy Holmes-Farley any ideas?
Did anybody whent furder with this to make a DIY sollution with pyridine-2-thiol 1-oxide ?

I’m also interested to hear more from folks dosing urea/ammonia. I’m having nutrient swings and may need to figure something out. Just trying to feed heavier and spot dose nitrate for now. Everything was stable but I don’t have the ability to hand feed the tank as much as I used to.

If I remember correctly @Troylee started dosing ammonia a while back with good results. Maybe he can help you out?

I have been dosing urea + ammonium Bicarb for ~ 6months or so. I have found that the urea addition has added some duration to the nitrate present in the tank. With just ammonium, the availability of nitrate was shorter lived and i had to dose a good deal more to keep detectable levels of nitrate in the water column. Adding urea has allowed me to dose less but have more nitrate available. I went from dosing ~4-5ml/day of 25g/liter ammonium bicarb to keep nitrate at 2ppm to dosing 1-2ml/day of 20g ammonium/ 5g urea per liter and am still testing steady at 2ppm. I know, not really a staggering amount of dosing for a 75 gallon display, but those have been my observations.

Ammonia is amazing! I started a urea mix also and I’m still on the fence about it myself… I’ll see how the tank looks when I get back from vacation lol…

Ditto here. I just added Urea to my ammonia recently. I’ve been dosing ammonia for 3 months-ish. No3 is at 3.5 right now. 480g and I am doing 125mil over 12 hours.

I’ve dosed brs 2 part , afr, kalkwasser, and over the last 2 years I have been dosing esv-bionic.

I have found the most stability and polyp extension with esv. Great stuff. Trace elements are also included in it.

Afr is great also, but afr is pre mixed and so when your calcium is on point everything else kinda lands where it lands but within a safe range.

With a product like esv, you can control the dose on each parameter separate , thus allowing you to hone in on a more precise dose.

So, my recommendation is esv. I have acros growing on acros. I have acros breaking a growing out of the sand lol it’s good stuff.

I left out - PO4 will creep to .20-.25, I’ll hit it with GFO and Phosphate RX, which in a few days it will get down below .09, I’ll stop and 30-45 days later rinse and repeat.

70ml daily All For Reef, 90g display.
Also dosing Ammonium bicarbonate to feed corals....my bioload is light and skimmer oversized, so NO3 bottoms out if I don't dose Ammonium.
