What do you put under your base

Manufacturer's of framed glass tanks state so for every one I have purchased in the past.

Also as per your other statement... that is true if the stand top isn't even and/or level as in many home built stands. Most quality stands are Level however and why tank manufacturers suggest you use theirs or it voids the warranty

@prsnlty would hate my setup.. I have a 36"x16" 30G tank sitting on a 36"x 14" stand with a wooden board 36x16" between the tank and stand.. it's also on carpeting.. tank's been up for a year

I have not seen or heard of a frameless 90g unless it was acrylic. There's a 92 that is glass. Not saying there isn't but generally it has a frame.

Lol, I doubt I would *hate* it but I would not think it was the safest situation. Not the board - the carpet. Again though it depends on the carpet and type of stand. ;)

Why do you feel you need 2" styrofoam to put between the stand and the tank? If it's for leveling you can get a pad called Aqua Gadget leveling adhesive rubber mat from Bulk Reef Supply for about $30 or less.

Lol that should be fine. There are many carpets that are ok but some really are not. The one I had under my 300g was very plush and thick with 1.5" padding- and I just happened to be there looking right at it when the seams blew. Of course, everyone may not have the same situation and there are many variables. The thing is we didn't know what the OP had or didn't have at the time. He asked what *we* used. If one has a *choice* it is best placed on solid flooring.

Understood. This is what I would do in your situation. Call the manufacturer of the tank and see what they suggest because many manufacturers know their tanks weaknesses. Better safe than sorry.

Definitely use a mat w width appropriate to tank weight. I've made the mistake of trying to skip this step on as small as a 50g Aqaurium that cracked on a tile floor with no mat in the past.
Typically square aquariums can get away without a mat on flat floor but for a rectangle tank I'd always use a mat on a hard floor. regardless

We're you hoping to place it on top of carpet?

The rule is, keep it off the tack board that is against the wall.
Set it up and make sure it's level but without water. Push on it. If it budges don't do it.

It should be fine. I would like to make a suggestion for people with wood, laminate and bamboo flooring. It's called Drymate Cleaning Mat. I'm pretty sure you can buy that at dr. Foster's and Smith and possibly bulkreefsupply. Some people use these in front of their tanks when they're doing water changes but others have put them underneath their tank on top of the wood flooring. It's an excellent product and it may help if you ever have any leaks or splashing. You should look it up it's really a great product and read the reviews. I have two of them and place currently on a couple of my other tanks just because I live in a place that if things get wet it turns to mold but they're great and will help protect your flooring.
