Hi all,

There is a white blob growing on my Frogspawn skeleton. It almost looks like a cocoon or something. I tried blowing it off but it is quite hard and solid and will not budge.

Should I try to dip it or leave it be? It seems a bit unhappy about it.

Thanks

With all due respect, that picture not going help anyone to help you, very blurry and presuming it's blue light lol

By your description could it be a sponge, maybe even a pineapple sponge?
Alot off sponges like dark or shady areas so under the polyps of coral is ideal .
If so and aslong as not affecting the flesh or polyps then no real harm imo

Presume you mean this frogspawn .
If so looks like a hole here which sponges have to let water get in to filter.
Tunicates have 2 holes I believe, one entry and one exit

Veru much welcome.
Some dont like them and remove when they can.
I read alot of other threads with sponges and alot the replys agree sign tank is healthy.
Most sponges just scrape off or can be peeled off, ovbiously careful not to go to close or damage the flesh or polyps if attempt to try remove.
Me personally I just leave them be,and would only remove if coral getting affected in a negative way.

I think reef builders did an article on sponges saying why they think sponges are bad, without finding it and re-reading to get familiar with it again, think went something along the lines off the sponges take the same good stuff out the water which corals use so are competition so = bad or something like this, bit ovbiously that juat one off many opinions

Here the article, not re-read it but will share so others can read and decide for themselves incase said wrong above ,if did apologise but article above
