What is this in an empty hermit shell?

So at first glance I thought it was just a hermit that was turned over, but then I looked more and noticed it was like a feather duster of some sort? Sorry for the poor quality pics, its kind of a weird angle. There is a larger one inside the shell and a smaller one right next to it.
