I just got a midnight clown in yesterday from LiveAquaria’s California facility, and it doesn’t look great. It doesn’t look as black as I think it should, it looks like it is more of a grey color. There is something wrong with it’s gills. They look kind of flared out, one is worse than the other. The inside of the gills look really red. I emailed them about it, and they said that it was ammonia burns, but I don’t know what that looks like so I don’t know if it is true or not. Someone else on here mentioned that captive bred clownfish are starting to turn into a train wreck of deformities. Just wanting to know what people think is wrong with it and what I should do.

I think this should be moved to the fish disease or tank emergency forum.

I personally can’t help you, but I know others can that watch those forums.

Moved :)
Red inflamed gills could be ammonia burn or bacterial infection of the gills. They could also be inflamed if the fish has gill flukes. Qt and treatment would be your best bet at saving it.
