after the salifert debacle...it seems many stores aren't even bothering to carry them or keep them in stock anymore.

i only really need 3 test kits:
-alkalinity
-calcium
-magnesium

and to a lesser extent:
-nitrate

not sure i like the elos kits...as they aren't really precise enough. i like the lamotte titrant kits...i may try the alk and calcium kits. but i still need to find a magnesium kit...lamotte doesn't make one, don't like the elos one (i can guess and save $20...lol), and can't find a salifert one for sale anywhere.

I have been using the elos line for over 6 months now. I like the ease of their reagents.

I use API test kits for Calcium, Hardness, Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, and Phosphate. They're simple to use (instructions are even on the back of the color cards) and are reasonably accurate. I have a pH monitor so I don't use their test kit much anymore but it works very well.

I use the seachem kit for mag. I like the fact that it has a 1350ppm standard that comes with the test. For calcium I am using salifert. For alk I just ordered 2 api tests from the good Drs.

FWIW I found this quit helpful: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=11974167#post11974167

Follow Boomer's second link. Nice testing done by Melev and friends.

I've switched over to Sera Marin test kits. They are another company out of Germany with real nice test kits.

Ill tell you what, i just got my first LaMotte calcium test kit, and even though initially they are extremely expensive, the refills are cheap, and they are lab grade tests...NEVER have i seen such precision in a test kit before...hands down, the most accurate, and well designed test kits out there.
