So, I bought a 1” montipora cap frag about a year ago for my Red Sea 425 but I had no idea it would explode and take over half the tank. It’s about 14” in diameter and a couple layers thick. My question is, what should I do with it now? Should I take large sections to a local shop, should I bust it into a bunch of smaller frags, or just trim it down? I honestly had no idea it would get this big.

LFS or see if some people on here near you want some! Great way to make friends is to give away coral you don't want!

In an ideal world you would sell, trade, give it away.

In reality trash may be the only option. Coral needs to be pruned with time as we are confined to the walls of our tanks. Just part of the process. Don’t sweat it.

Unfortunately that becomes a forever problem. Even if you can give it all away, next year you'll have the same issue. Good luck whatever you do, I pulled the rock out after a few years so I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore (I found it impossible to clean/scrape it off the rock)

Thanks everyone. Seems like a first world problem…”oh no, my coral is growing too fast.” I’ll contact a couple LFS in the Denver area. I really appreciate what I’ve learned from everyone here. I never could have grown this monster without all the advice.
