Well, without a tank it's hard to play this game! But what I'd consider a finishing touch would be cord management. Everything tidied up and labeled.

Ohh I feel I am close.
I am waiting on buddy who is electrician. I'm going to get his opinion and knowledge to install possibly an in wall power cabinet for my plugs. Have 3 kasa strips to fit in a tiny area. He will know if it can be cut in cleanly. Then can design mount board for the controllers down below in cabinet. Then get a cheap tablet to control.

I have one small fish to look for and need to swap out elegance for another as it is out grown my tank. I also will be looking at a pink cocoa worm and possibly a sea fan or whip but not needed.

Only other thing is eventually swap out my camera for a versa so everything is mostly on 1 app.

I bought my last filler coral today.

Acroporas...

For Acropora I ditched the inaccuracy of a calcium reactor for an Alkatronic / Mastertronic setup using Randy’s DIY recipes. I make up 20L of Calcium Chloride and Sodium Carbonate solution, and 10L of Mg and a Sodium Hydroxide solution. Tropic Marin Elements A- goes in both Alkalinity at a rate of 1400ml to 20 Litres. Same with K+ and Calcium. Dosetronic doses Carbonate during photoperiod, then Hydroxide on a night to smooth out night pH dip.
I have a 680L system of main display and frag tank, over 40 flavours of Acropora, biggest colonies are trimmed back to 10” diameter. A 20L container of supplement (21.4L after TE addition) lasts 187 days at current demand levels. Cheap as chips, consistent and reliable!

Short term goal is to get the nitrate destroyer going. Long term is a 280 gallon upgrade.

Outside of the on going maintenance to your point, I hate being “done” as I’m always looking for ways to do more. A huge part of the enjoyment for me is having or looking for something more to do to the tank and its inhabitants. Whether it’s changing equipment, dosing practices, flow patterns, lighting intensity, etc., what I enjoy is never being finished in the pursuit of perfection. Of course, this will never be achieved but it’s what drives me.

Hopefully I don’t “tweak” things to the detriment of the tank.

As a fellow tinkerer, I wholeheartedly agree.

Step 1-having acros survive
Step 2- have growing acros
Step 3- have tank full of acro colonies
Step 4- upgrade tank because I need more space.

I personally feel like I’m done when my tank is running on its own with minimum intervention. Less WC, Less algae management, Less glass cleaning etc…
Simply put when tank gets matured.

I’m experiencing...
on a SPS tank starting with dry rock and dry sand…
1st year it sleeps
2nd year it creeps
3rd year it leaps… a little lol

4th year. It might be a DONE state perhaps. :)

I use Randy's recipes in my doser.

I haven't been adding any of the other stuff on a regular basis. I do add Trace Elements occasionally but right now it's mostly all easy stuff in my tank.

They've got a little green one at the LFS I frequent. He's been there for a couple of weeks now, but I keep forgetting to check the price.

I have had mixed results with the nem cannon. Some of mine decided they could stretch the 6 inches instead of walking out. It looked like it worked awesome and the head was fully out of the pipe, but alas, the foot was still attached to rock :/

I’m hoping it works, I have 40+ that took over my main display by just letting it ride. So if I can get the majority out I would be happy. My clowns on the other hand already look at me like they know it’s coming.

Because we are planning a long vacation at some point*, I shall not rest until I have:
1. ATO/AWC
2. 2-heater system and controller
3. 4 ch Doser
4. Light upgrade
5. Vacation auto-feeding solution that my fish will agree to.
6. Establish a self-perpetuating pods colony.

*plus, I like stability in my tank.

I'm sure there will be adventures down many cul-de-sacs en route, such as additional coral purchases. Because, corals.

The finishing touches itself has been the problem! I probably should've called this a finished tank a while back. But I add more corals... Start dosing X,Y, or Z, etc.

Am I even trying to reach a place where I can just sit back and watch it grow in? Doesn't look like it. Stay tuned for the new build! Lol
