I live in Florida and picked up a few mangrove pods since I was experimenting with natural nutrient export. They did well, but I didnt really think much about the red algae attached. It EXPLODED. Turns out, I had high phosphates in the tank, so once I treated those, it all but disappeared.

For me, it's fireworks clove polyps, Xenia, and GSP. They're all really happy, and growing everywhere! GSP and clove polyps are almost impossible to get off the rock work, but Xenia I can cut off with a razor.

It's not too bad all-in-all, looks really pretty. But they don't discriminate.. grows right over my Monti encrusters, acros... completely covered a zoa frag and torch frag like they weren't there! Tank steamrollers!!

YES, There's a poor suffocated torch head in there!!

And the GSP do love to do their thing..... They're inching up towards my beautiful monti's! (orange filter)

Dang ... I have the same ones mixed with green watermelon mushrooms. Everyday, I swear there are more.
Since the waving hand anthelia spawned like babies fleeing Krypton, it's been a cage match to see who wins... WHA or Shrooms. I have a Kenyan Tree that has not started spreading but it is suddenly growing since the Anthelia went nuts. I can honestly say that when I transfer my rock to the new tank, I am going to have to cull coral. I'll give away what I can.... but it is not taking over the new tank. No way.

PANDORA ZOAS;Rage

They’ve taken over my bottom third of the tank. I’ve cleaned the rock to the left off and am slowly working my way to the right. They smothered Utter Chaos, blue hornets, rings of fire, armor of gods and a green hammer you can see struggling. I also have a mystic sunset monti that I placed as a back glass cover that’s shelved out to the rocks and is starting to smother my SPS section on top.

Im having the same issue with mines to the point where they killed every other ( more expensive zoa in that, rockwork. I had to glue a frag tile ontop of it to slowly kill it from lack of light.

Green palys! Ugh. They are taking over a beautiful orange zoa, I have no idea what the name is, traded something for it years ago. I also have a rather good size rock that is completely green if there is anyone in south central Florida that MIGHT want it. I have a real hard time just throwing away.

About a year ago I had bought a small frag of polips and now they are through out my tank and now starting to choke out some zoas. I am almost to the point of a reboot. Started as 3 little heads on the left and now through out the tank. Bit worried if I pull out the rocks with them on it people will get sick.

This is an odd one but - Coraline is out of control. I like to keep my back panel clean and it grows at such a fast rate I’m always scrapping it off. Also in the corners it can be a pain to get out. So many want it to grow and I just want it to go away lol.
That's a nice problem to have. I am just trying to get it to grow despite having good water parameters.

Amphipods.. I even bought a wrasse to try to decimate the population but I still have wayyyy too many. They have began eating my Zoas which is very frustrating.

Cespitularia tried hard to take over my 10 gallon. I had to scrub my rocks with a wire brush after cutting the flesh off of the rocks to tame it back. I don't have any photos of it when it got really bad, but when I swapped that tank to a 20 gallon, it hasn't really bounced back as strong. I love it though! It's one of my favorite softies , but definitely one that you have to keep in check and frag the moment it starts sending out runners.

Kenya Trees - Branches in the craziest places. Found one in the middle of my GSP. And one growing on the nem guard of my MP40. They are everywhere!

Xenia - It seemed under control. Until it wasn't. Now I even find polyps growing in the sand.

Pests - Cyano, Bryopsis, Dinos, GHA, Bristleworms. All the usual suspects! I know, bristleworms aren't really pests...unless they are bigger than your fish. They make my porcelain crab very angry and it takes a lot to make him angry.

I'm finding one of the biggest challenges in this hobby is finding the line between "be patient" and "act now".

Actually, RBTAs! I started with one, have given away at least 6 and right now there are 9, one of which is splitting.
Free to a good home! ;-)

I have had a real bad aptasia problem before. So ba I had to start over and chuck the rock. Hundreds of them. I make sure now whatever I buy has none on it and I rinse all corals now with Revive.

Yep, Dinos - for over a year now.
Here is full program:
Prepare by starting with a water change and blow this stuff loose with a turkey baster and siphon up loose particles.
Turn lights off (at least white and run blue at 10-15%) for 5 days and at night dose 1ml of hydrogen peroxide per 10 gallons for all 5 nights. If you dont have light dependent coral- turn all lights off.
During the day dose 1ml of liquid bacteria (such as bacter 7) per 10 gallons.
Clean filters daily and DO NOT FEED CORAL FOODS OR ADD NOPOX as it is food for dinos.
Day 5,, you can start with blue lights - ramping up and work your white lights up slowly

Dog gone Kenyii trees. Theyre Everywhere !!

2. What are some tips for getting an "out of control" pest or coral back into control? Does it take a whole tank tear down?

Im about to do a major cutting and tossing of them. I recommend these to No One

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
