Hey everyone, I hope you are doing well. I am starting up a new tank, and I am trying to get a idea of what may be to expensive. I want to be able to have it where I don't really have to worry about managing the tank, but I will obviously still maintain it, and put some elbow grease into it. I am also curious on what people spend on reef tanks lol. It can be livestock and or equipment.

My regal angel and jeweled moray eel for fish

Rocks and sand and salt is pricey

The tank itself (thats kind of a given)

Sumps and skimmers
The regal angel is such a beautiful fish!

The most expensive thing in my tank is a dragon soul torch. You can spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on equipment that will automate feeding, testing, dosing water top off even changes. They are not necessarily fail safe and dialing these things in for a brand new system will take a bit of testing and tweaking in itself. I think an auto top off is probably where most reefers start and then begin to add controllers, probes, testing devices etc to keep an eye on parameters and figure out dosing. It’s a whole entire rabbit hole and I don’t know how practical it is to focus on that when beginning a new tank. I think you might wanna first put in that elbow grease and figure out what your “automation” needs are later on. Start with an ATO.

Wow, you have kept a beautiful fish, her name is beautiful as well!
Thank you! Shes my “show fish” or “center piece fish” that everyone wants in their tank! Shes actually named after the Annabelle doll since I love horror movies and its also a pretty name!

I think it’s my skimmer… how boring is that.
So how about my most expensive living thing. My goldspotted snake eel!

My rainbow bubble tip anemone. Thing has killed more corals than climate change. Its on its way out lol
Oh no! They are so pretty, but I don't think I am going to add one to my tank for that exact reason.
