noticed this protrusion coming out of the side of my blonde naso today. had him for over a year, always ate like a pig. constantly eating nori, pellets, and mysis.

today, however, he's not eating.

what is it? what do i do? in my 12 years of reefkeeping I've never seen anything like this

Pic blurry as mentioned but preliminarily, I suspect part of a bristleworm but may be bacterial.
Pics best under white lighting and even video of at least 24 sec very helpful

It may be good idea to take the fish out and give it bath ... details in article.

If you want t9 not catch the fish, can apply Prazipro. Generally that is safe for corals

Do not administer any medication without identifying first what this is. We dont heal issues with guesses and adding unnecessary medication

update: I unrolled the tube, it's actually remains of a glove... tang must've eaten a chunk of a glove at some point, and what I'm seeing is a result of an intestinal rupture.
This is nuts. I hope he pulls through. Poor fellow.

My wife spent years as a vet. Not fish though. Just asked her. She think that the blockage would have killed him first. It only takes 24 hours to kill a dog with intestinal blockage. He would have does before he could reject it. The white is bacterial. Dude needs QT and antibiotics.

Put short she doesn't think this was introduced through his digestive tract. That would have been a death sentence.

She thinks he will live if you qt and medicate.

cut the very tip of it off, this worm-like thing receded down a tube inside of it. I'm so confused, I've never seen anything like this before.

this tube thing was sticking out of the mass, the worm-like thing receded inside of this

How bizzare. Now, to be safe. . . if there is a wound, you will want to treat with seachem Kanaplex in quarantne. If none- Fantastic !

Wow! I’ve seen foreign body expulsions a few times before, but always metal (nails, fishhooks, etc). Never seen that happen with soft material before (but have seen that cause impactions).
