whats with these damsels

I got 3 neon blue star damsels about 8 months ago about a week ago they started moving sand kinda like how cichlids move gravel around. are they in a breeding mood?? I thought they just scattered eggs. if they aren't trying to breed then what the heck is going on
good thing I actually did something right when I first set up the tank by putting all the live rock in first & then the sand but this is really messing with my DSB any ideas?

I have one that does the same thing. It drives me NUTS!! I don't think he/she is trying to breed because it lost it's "mate" over a year ago. But maybe it just still goes through the motions. LOL

they are driving me nuts also have to keep using the turkey baster to get all the sand off my corals had a major diatom outbreak as a result but doubled my bio pellets & it's backing off nitrates jumped from 0 to 5 but could be worse yesterday just as I walked by it looked like a sand storm
