I’m planning to replace the aquascape in my 240L aquarium. I’ve already built the new aquascape for the left side. I’m keeping the right side as it is, but the left side contains about 80% of all the rock in the tank. How can I do this without killing all the corals? I’ve built the new scape and placed it in a bucket with water from the tank. I have a heater in the bucket, but currently no circulation (I do have an extra pump). Is there anything else I should do? Do I need light?

How long?

How many and what kind of fish do you have? I've replaced over 50% of my rock at one time with no ill effect. Bacteria is on all surfaces and in the sand, not only on the rocks. Do you have any other filtration?

Since you already have the rock in water, add some fish food and the power head or pump that you have. You don't need light. When I've cooked rock, I generally let it sit for at least 30 days.

It’s a Red Sea Reefer 250 G2 with 8 fish. I used water from the other aquarium, and I’m considering emptying the gunk from the skimmer into the tank where I’m curing the rock. Then I’ll set up a circulation pump. I’ll take one rock from the main tank and use water from there during water changes.

I’d want it cycled since it is such a significant portion of total rock, just to be safe…

Water, heat, circulation, Dr Tim’s One and Only, Ammonia will have you ready to swap over in a little over a week

I’m unfamiliar with the Fritz product, what makes it faster? Higher bacterial density?

Great info, thanks!

Im currently doing the same thing. Figured I’d get a head start until my tanks ready. Heater, two sponge filters, and a bottle of bacteria. I’ve got base live rock showing up Tuesday that I’ll be adding in also.
