when I make my saltwater

When I make my saltwater I let it mix for a couple of days in a black garbage can. When I pull out the power heads they are covered in a film .It is also on the sides of the garbage cans. I use a Ro unit . I'm not sure what it is. The best way to put it is if you didn't clean your bath tub for a year the ring of scum that builds up is what it looks like in the garbage can and on the power heads. What do you think it can be

Possibly precipitation of calcium or other elements of the salt. Or it could also be biological, do you aerate as you mix?

its bacteria, it normal i have it in my mixing tank also, you must have water in it at all times?

its never hurt anything im my tank. i clean it out maybe twice a year it can build quiet a good slime coat in that time.

What type of salt do u use? There's a big discussion over in RC regarding Reef Crystals salt leaving a black film in mixing tanks.

Personally I use Reef Crystal but once I finish the one I have I will be changing salts, probably will go with TMP.
