Im looking at the onyx dimmable from rapidleds or the razor R420R 16000k for my 60gal cube what should I choose.

The razor offers more grow LEDs than the onyx. Either should be good to replace a 175-250 watt MH

For SPS and clams you would need two onyx for 200 PAR on the sand bed.

Are you happy with the Chinese Imports?

I'm a big DYI fan as this is simple electronics and you can choose the best parts and your personal mix of LEDs

I'm running 16k 160w x2. Their height is staggered. Ill be upgrading my tank soon and so I've been purchasing new hardware as though I had a 120g.
Is that stupid? Sure. Irrational? Probably. And so it's important you understand that I'm a stupid, irrational... but the lights are so pretty!

Be Careful using watts to determine the light output of a LED Fixture.

A lot of variables determine the watt to light output.

-Efficiency of the LEDs
-Efficiency of the Optics
-Efficiency of the Drivers
-Efficiency of the Heatsink...Yes the cooler the LEDs run the brighter they are...

I've tested many fixtures including the ones from our sponsors. One Chinese Import measured about 250 PAR @ 138 watts measured at 24" in free air. A domestic Fixture with less LEDs measured over 500 PAR @ 118 watts measured at 24" in free air. The Domestic fixture had a larger 200 PAR area.

Never use watts to determine light intensity.

Its not watts its PAR on the sand bed that matter and I like to see 200 for clams. Its also about dimmability and creating a natural light curve.

You can rent one.

I highly recommend a before and after measurement whenever changing lights.

Once acclimated corals will grow with the equivalent to a 175-400watt MH.

I've found better growth with the intensity approaching and above a 400 watt MH.

If you jump from a 175 watt to 400 watt MH equivalent overnight you have a good chance the corals will have a negative response.

Just please do not use fixture watts to determine brightness. If you choose not to measure PAR dial the quality fixture back to be safe and slowly ramp up. The coral will look at it like a couple weeks of tropical storms. But will not be shocked by too much light too quick.
