I would recommend the Simplicity DC 240, like others have stated great C/S they actually answer the phone and ship the parts right out, no need for a ticket and no communication. You can do the ticket but I have always found them to be very responsive.

Reef Octo Recirculating 150 External. It is a beast - Doesn't care about water level - Maintains its level even when turned on and off - Easy to adjust for dry or wet skimming. Yes, it needs a second pump and the intake needs cleaning often. Well worth it though. Oh, BTW, I run mine in the sump. It doesn't have to be external.

I have the AC version of the Red Sea 300 on my 120. Works great. You can find them used for pretty cheap, just saw one in my local club for $80.

I'm in LA also.....Yes...we get blackouts often......
It really depends on where you are in LA, anywhere near Malibu and the Hollywood Hills yes.
Flat ground probably not a big deal.
Curious you are in Compton that is flat ground, why are you getting black outs there?

Topography plays only a small part.
We get pre-announced Black-outs during summer, and then ofcourse, the fires in the hills, and the ever present car running into power poles.....you know, typical stuff living in the city.

I wanted something like kinda on the cheaper side and also good. So I kinda did just look through all the sites and simplicity was like a option
My experience you get what you pay for. I could make a skimmer for about 200 . Paul b made a filter fore under 100 me that filter cost about 400 . You can easily make your own stuff once you understand how it works usually high school stuff. Which is why I am admitting I am jealous of Randy getting thousands of dollars of free researched equipment for nothing. But I truly believe he has earned it. GO Randy

You get what you pay for apparently prices will come down now since tarrif crazy you know who has some clarity which was announced by Orfeck. So hopefully others will follow and not try to take advantage of you

Since you are in Los Angeles have you experienced any blackouts in the last 2 years?
I have!! Not so long someone had a really bad car crash onto the pole!! And idk if they died but so sad man. And when it’s hot sometimes they turn the electricity off like in riverside I heard they do that frequently!

Yea honestly I don’t have the mind to be doing that, I go to school and also work with a kid so I feel like a week long project will go over to a month or two project sadly.. but I wouldn’t mind just having a detailed video with everything (since I am a visual learner) and I feel like I will be more hooked on being a diy person over just buying already made

Yea it’s like how fungi said, living in city we have more people and more dummy apparently and ppl not using there rightful minds lol, I’m in Pomona. So sometimes I know riverside turns there electricity off when it’s super hot… and I don’t want that to be a cause of loosing hundreds of dollars corals and fish and everything

I like reef octo skimmers. But I believe you should first establish what you want to spend. Then chose the best/most reliable option in that range.
Your right I just wanted to have one ready since with tariffs I’m scared and I know prices will increase
