which vortech(s) should i get?

Im currently putting together a shallow display tank (different.. i know!)

tank dimensions are 48Lx24Wx12H

should i get:

1 x mp10w ES
2 x mp10w ES
1 x mp40w ES

1 mp40 turned up full blast would be fun to watch, but I would recommend getting mp10's if you had to pick one. I would invest in korallias because you cant turn the mp10s up all the way either.

with the placement of the 2 mp10s... im guessing they need to be on the sides facing eachother?

how would just the mp40 on the back work?

dont want cords hanging over the sides so koralias wont work

I voted two MP10s but be cautious as they can rated for 3/8th of an inch, the MP40 would be a better choice on 1/2" glass. An MP20 with an updated wireless driver would do the trick as well but you would have to find them used. Keep in mind, if no one willing messing around the MP10s then it won't be a problem. A lot of people use the mounting kit and it holds fine, sort of like a fail safe if someone decides they want to touch it.

i dont want that to happen with the mp10.... as my tank is 1/2 inch acrylic

what about 1x mp40 on one side?

and sorry for all the questions... ive never owned a vortech, but i know they're powerful... just now sure how that translates to the shallow tank...

I think you might have some challenges getting a single MP40 to work on that shallow and long of a tank. Unless you have almost zero rockwork it might be difficult to get flow into all the crevices on the opposite side. Vortech have such a wide flow pattern, an MP40 might end up sucking up sand or pulling down air, depending on how it's placed.

Honestly I think two smaller tunze pumps would be better, since their flow is more linear. The two MP10's would have been perfect but the thickness of your glass doesn't really work with those.

I have used my Tunze 6100's for years, they're great and provide powerful directional flow. I run one of those and an MP60 on my 48x30x24. So I have some experience with both Tunze and Vortech pumps.

Might want to check to see if there are any club members around your area that would lend you one to test on your tank. I should have done so but I'm lazy. If anything buy a used one with the latest wireless driver and test it for yourself before buying another one. An MP40 like others have said would stir things up! For a 48" tank, I would suggest two pumps. On a 36" and less the MP40 alone would suffice.

Maybe some Tunze nanos? 6025 and a 6045 (newer adjustable flow) sounds up your ally. It's a lot cheaper then a MP40 or two MP10s. I believe it's less then300 for both.

How about drilling and installing a closed loop system? could use black pvc and not distract from the tank much at all. You can put the flow where you need it. Just a thought. The 2 10's would be perfect but aquarium is a little to thick.
