Please can anyone help me identify what this white patch is on my kole tang? Its acting normal, not stressing out and still eating so dont know what its is. Seems to have gotten bigger since yesterday.

Directly posted vids never play...posting to (eg) YouTube first works better.

The pic looks more like a Betta and I can't make out any detail. Can you get a better pic – use full white light, no blue.

Hi,

In addition to us needing pics and video, we need background info on the tank and fish. This post explains all that:

Thank you for the reply, hopefully this is more clear?

The white spot seems to have gotten bigger, and the fish had just been bullied about, so looks a bit defeated. I have moved into another tank for now.

That is a very severe infection - see how the fish is bobbing as it tries to swim? Bullying may have been the original cause, so it’s good that you isolated it.

It is probable a secondary bacterial infection, but it could also be a rare primary fungal infection, I can’t really see clearly.

To be honest, antibiotics take 5 days to work, and I’m sorry, but I don’t think the tang will last that long.

If you want to try, you should dose a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic like neomycin in a hospital tank.

better but still not good enough to really make any kind of diagnosis from. I do sympathize. It's hard to get pictures of situations like this, but keep keep trying.

From what you're saying, I would guess those are scars from getting pushed around in the tank.

That's good because it's probably not any kind of disease to worry about, but it is a wound and it may still be worth worrying about because of that.

Keep trying to get that picture and maybe Jay or someone can recommend a typical low stress treatment for surface abrasions.

if circumstances were different, this would probably heal on its own, and I wouldn't worry about it, but you mentioned he's often another tank and probably still stressed out, guessing he's not living in naturalistic circumstances at the moment... probably more like a QT?

... so it may be worth being a bit proactive

I do, is this a possible cause?
Yes bud sorry for the late reply. It could be HLLE or hole in the head. Pretty much if you run carbon and don’t rinse it will or it grinds down into a fine powder over time in your tank the particles get under the scales and cause this.
