Check out beginners guide to salt water from BRS. They have some really good info in those videos. Also the 52weeks of reefing by them is good too!

Don't build a beginners tank, build a reef tank with easy, compatible corals and fishes.

It's better to aim high, get good equipment (lights, skimmer, water pumps and a tank + sum) and watch yourself succeed!

Just jump in to a tank size you can afford. There are a lot of resources here to learn from! Spend some time on this site with the search button and you will find answers and ideas.

Looking to build a beginner tank. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Firstly what size are you thinking and how do you want to stock it - Fish and a few coral, fish only or?

Welcome to R2R!

40 gallon to 75 gallon All in One or a tank with a sump. Don't use a canister filter. It will work but it's a lot of work to keep the filter clean. I started out with a Fluval FX6 canister (rated up 400g freshwater) on a 40 gallon tank. It was a big chore to keep it clean each week.
