I'm not a tall guy (6') and I hate bending down to look in a tank. It's like they are all designed at barstool height. Either you do the wierd bend at the waist or you hover over it with the tank light blasting in your face. Is there a legitimate reason for this?

For my tank I raised the stand 12 inches and even this doesn't seam like enough, I'd love to see some eye level tank stands where I can walk up and meet the tank in a much more natural way and not feel like I'm peering in a car window from outside.

For bigger tanks like the marineland dd tanks, they make the stands short so they will fit through the door. However if your tank is under 27" wide there is no reason why they should be short. Most of my stands are just homemade 2x4 but my one tank that sits on a metal stand sits on a 2x4 frame under the metal stand to raise it to a decent height.

I would guess most people either make their own stands or have them custom made unless they have an all in one package.

I've noticed the people that make their own stands usually make them the same height as the stock ones I just don't understand. It was so nice going to the aquarium a few months ago, every single display was perfectly eye level.

Additionally most skimmers and reactors have gotten taller leaving barely any room for these components

We had planned going 36" with our new build, but I'm only 5'6" and my son is 12. We taped it off on the wall and discovered 30"+24" tank is about all we can manage.

Lol funny. I’m only 5’6” also and my son is 10. We are still happy with the 4’ stand and 24” tall tank. Just a pain to do internal work though.

Yes!

I believe they are lower due to everyone sitting around in a room and being able to see and enjoy the tank. If tanks are at a good height for standing than they will have a less enjoyable view the rest of the time. Also probably helps with light shining in peoples eyes.

I am 6'3" and I don't understand why one would want it at eye level as I watch the tank from a diatance while sitting at a table and working on the computer. Are you staring straight into the thing for some reason?

my stands are 36 inches high. i too like for my tanks to be higher.

my 150 extra high was like looking out of a window. it was awesome.

i will say the high stands make couch viewing less pleasurable.

I am 6'2" and I do think about this from time to time. I think it has to do with working in the tank and viewing from a sitting position. At the public aquariums, you have to stand around but at home for enjoyment of the tank we are usually sitting. Or in my case, laying.

I like being able to sit on my couch and peer into an eye level tank. The stand for the living room tank is 31" (we had it custom built) with a 24" tall tank (the top is roughly armpit level). In my home office, the tank is eye level while I'm sitting in my office chair; again, it's nice to look over and be eye level with the tank. Additionally, it makes maintenance possible without needing a step ladder (though I still need one on the 150g occasionally).

I'm 5'1... on a good day. My tank is the perfect height for me sitting or standing... however, I do need a stool to do any work in it, and a bar stool to kneel on so I can reach down to the bottom, with the water up to my armpit, short girl problems.

I am 5’2” and built my stand higher so it would be eye level for anyone 5’ to 5’10”. I often stand at the tank to see what plugs have fallen or if corals need to be moved. Across the room we have 2 chairs where we sit and watch the tank. Its a great height for both. But I can certainly see if you are 6’ +, a regular height tank would be difficult to see straight on.
