Again, I introduced my mandarin in early December, my aquarium was cycled for 8months prior so loads of copepods amphipods critters etc,.
My main question which I still can not find answers for is this... I will provide photos, he has again grown a wierd bubble under his skin? I have learnt so much about mandarins/ age/sex/colour/food/habits/ death, but still can not find anything on these growths??
Photos provided and you can zoom in as best quality today (tried to video eating frozen blood worm), I will provide better quality tomorrow, he seems good in general and fatter than my previous post about this (he needs feeding) anyone have an ideas what this is

Hard to catch in right light, it's apparent in looking but not best in videos, this is best I have so far, he's great in health and seems great in general, just this weird growth.
I can not find anything in reef2reef or elsewhere,
All life comes to front when I want to video lol,

this looks like a type of prolapse - or a parasite - BUT - the pictures do not lend themselves to making a comment

In previous times, has it been in the same place? If it's moved around, it could be some swelling as a result of a pinch or a sting. They don't have swim bladders, so it can't be that, so I would presume some sort of infection/inflammation, though I don't really have any diagnosis to offer.

Does he seem effected by it? Any noticing a preference for which side he swims/rests on or any other odd behavior?

Nice fat little mandarin.

I'm not sure what that is. On triggerfish, and other tough skinned fish, abscesses can develop that never open to the skin's surface. Maybe mandarins can have that happen also? In the absence of any other symptoms, I wouldn't try treating it though......

Thank you, So first 2 photo/video is from January this year when I first noticed bump/growth, you can see this is lower part of left side, the new bump in remaining video (3rd) is from today and this new bump is right side and more center/upper part of body, the first bump went away and now this new one, it has never or don't act any differently so I am not overly concerned, it is very unusual how I can not find any information about this,
I do think your right in possible abscesses as this is closest to explaining what it could be as first bump never opened skin, I really appreciate all your thoughts and input thank you

do you make sure to fully defrost those bloodworms? could be causing a blockage or bloating maybe. Could also be some eggs failing to reabsorb.

What do you mean eggs failing to reabsorb please, yes bloodworms and other frozen food rinsed with aquriam water before adding, I believe if blockage or bloating this would be same area, like it's stomach or anus but these growths have been on opposite side of my mandarin, also this new growth is more towards the tail and upper area, like its tail muscle
Thanks

rinsed or left to sit fully defrosted?

anyways, theres a chance its eggs, from what I know the condition is called dystocia, and is known to occur more often in captive mandarins without a male.

@Jay Hemdal (sorry for the ping) I saw you talking about this in another post, what do you think?

Thanks for the thoughts, I believe my mandarin to be male, but will look into this for abit of extra knowledge. frozen food placed in Tupperware with aquarium water, defrosted and remaining water discarded, then more aquriam water used with turkey baster to feed, I have in past just rinsed but found when not fully defrosted the bloodworms tend to float :)

From the location of the bumps, I wasn’t thinking dystocia or something in digestive system. Two of the bumps seem to be above muscle tissue.
Imbedded digenean trematodes or even nematodes maybe? I’ve just never seen this before.

As an added note - talking about bloodworms. Do folks know that a pretty high number of people develop severe allergies to these? There are evidently even instances of asthma being brought on after handling these.

Updated video on my mandarin with weird growth for info, I'll get more pics tomorrow in day/white lights.
today bubble looks very prominent and whiter on the tip like it's really bulging, (recently read a post about a fish that had abscess and died following day with pictures after death included so thought I would update)

My mandarin is still eating and no changes in behaviour, little worried this may burst but unfortunately not much I can do, if I remember correctly first growth was not as prominent but possibly due to more forgiving part of body as it was lower and on opposite side of body, I'll post more pictures tomorrow, thanks
