I used to talk about my tank alot more, but I had a few incidents with house guests and talking to them about my tank for hours straight while drinking, and now I have learned to keep my tank to myself.

Most people just say 'Cool hermit crabs!' anyways.

I'm into both motorcycle and reef tanks if you lived near me I could slowly convince him to get into it whilst we are out riding...

I thought of some changes I wanted to make. I wanted to do things a little different with the reef tank. I was excited and wanted to talk with the wife about it and she interrupted me and said "Stop, I don't want to hear it."
Anyone else ever talk too much about their tank?
Ever find your spouse's eyes start to glaze over when you talk about the reef tank?
I guess I've got enough passion about the hobby for both of us. lol.

Dang...i think she was a bit rude to respond that way! Seriously, my wife doesn't get into the hobby, but she'd never respond that way about something im excited and passionate about. I can tell when she's just being polite and listening to me talk about the tank, but she just smiles and says something nice.

If you can't tell her how rude that was without her just rolling her eyes at you, then the next time she opens her mouth to go on about something...repeat those words to her and walk away. That's an aggressive approach...

But then again, we are only getting one side off this story and maybe she was just having a really bad day.

Me: cool, I was looking up new corals I saw this really cool one.
Husband: fun, she’s a Siren and her skill tree is crazy
Me: nice, it’s called a pulsing sinularia it looks so interesting

I get my involved in the hobby I'm like babe your better at science and measurements then me and I rele need to do this test and she gets all excited about it..

My hubby does not mind really. I do try to educate him on our reef, showing him things but he leaves that up to me. I get excited when I see a new baby coral or seeing our our cleaner shrimp, I'll call hubby over to the tank. He goes with me to the LFS also and enjoys looking at the fish. He seems to like the tank.

I geek out on plumbing/lighting/sump stuff and she only really cares about coral/fish. But that’s ok. At least I don’t have to consult her when making technical decisions lol.

I notice with anyone else, coworkers, family etc., first thing after I tell them I have a reef tank is “Wow! That’s a lot of work!” Kind of funny how that’s the general paradigm about saltwater tanks.

As frustrating as it can get with a spouse, children, dogs, etc., the idea of dating at this point in my life sounds way worse :)

If I was Married with kids I’d probably be a lot happier, but wouldn’t have all my cool reefing equipment and toys. It’s a trade off.
Things don’t fill the hole inside. I can vouch for that for sure.

It's all relative, grass is never greener, whatever cliche you like! I like quiet, I'm an introvert, the most relaxing part of my day is the hour between when I shut off the work computer and when the maniacs come home.

When the two kids are bouncing off the walls I frequently tell my wife "I could have bought a Corvette." Not that I spent it wisely, but I sure never realized how much free time and money I had before domestic life :)

Lol. I’m on the other half of the boat. All I have is free and quiet time. Sometimes I wish for some noise.

Talk too much about tanks, watch too many tank videos, too much time on tank sites/blogs, too many tank plans and not enough tank space. Even the woman that worked the last half of the 80's in aquarium stores to facilitate our addiction, thinks I'm a little too hung up on this. :rolleyes:

My husband has learned to just glaze his eyes over as I continue to talk. And if I ask a question it’s usually responded to with an “ I don’t know honey, you’re the crazy fish lady, not me.”

To be fair he supports me as much as he can and if it’s financially possible I have every freedom to do what I want. Thankfully I have a good hold on my money. Otherwise I’d have a bangin tank, but be very hungry lol.
