Any cycle should be insignificant if you do not add a lot of live stock or too much food to feed live stock. I have started many a nano using the method without issue or detectable ammonia or nitrite levels. I just would not add any sensitive inverts such as an anemone right off the bat.

Shouldn't cycle. I'll give you a pointer on a 10g though. If you get a standard 10g with a rim and like to keep the water level high, as in almost to the top to the lip. Run a bead of silicone around the top rim. Air gets caught and food gets trapped in the bubbles and makes some nasty gunk. It also makes for an oily residue on the surface that no surface agitation will get rid of. At least that's been an issue with mine. Drives me crazy!

You'll still go through a mini cycle. Test the water, especially ammonia and nitrates. They will tell you if it's ready:)

Totally confused by the use of the term cycle in this thread.
It seems you all mean not process ammonia.
"Shouldn't cycle "

But I'll presume you mean not get ugly.

It'll cycle fine don't add too much to fast or it'll get ugly as the bio filter may be weak.
