Or would I be wasting my money? I have 2-250 MH on a 120 gallon. I want to add a this LED to enhance my corals. It is a 40" strip 18-3watt system (54w total) all will be blue. I think they are 445mn which is the royal blue. I want my corals even on the sand bed to pop. Or would my MH just wash out the LED?

I made a 40" strip of 28 royal blue LEDs for a friends 150 tall and its way sweet...but he's using an 8 bulb T5 as well. But it really punches when the LEDs are on.

Thanks that gives me an idea it is what I would want. Not sure what the brightness difference in the t5 and MH is but I think it says it would make a difference.

Guys...for those that don't DIY these are pretty nice. Inexpensive, crees (probably older XREs), and plug play with basic dimming. This linear design is perfect for supplementing. They have a variety of types too. OCReef 60 Watt Blue Moonlight LED Aquarium Light Fixture

It is hard to say if that is the reason things don't look good. There are also water perimeters to consider but that does not sound like alot of light. If the florescent is a regular bulb/ballast I think that would hurt the coloring. No one looks good under store quality lighting LOL. My tank is 24" deep and the bulbs are 8" above that. Other than the 2 MH I also have 4 t5 that turn on opposite the MH. And there is a huge difference in light quality. Nothing looks better under just the 4-t5. It maybe the depth because I know others have t5 but have more than just 4 and a more shallow tank. You can increase the number of t5. Go with MH, the higher the "k" the more blue the color. I use Phoenix 14k. But I also like 20k, more blue. Or go with LED.
