Gents,

I would like to draw from your experiences. I am getting ready to set up a 57 gallon reef ready tank and am planning on using a 20 gallon long sump. The kicker is, this is in my living room and I need it to be VERY quiet. I have an SWC120 skimmer on my 60 gallon and was considering going with the same, because it works great, very quiet, and has a small footprint.

Now, I am using a Pondmaster pump externally on my 60 gallon, and despite some of the attempt at deading the sound it is still pretty loud. Which pumps would you all recommend ?

Any other killer heads up on designing a sump ?

I use mag-drive pumps (in-sump) and have had no problems at all. I use a mag24 for my return on a 150g and it makes very little noise. For a 57 gallon I would go with a mag9 or mag12. As far as the design goes. if you have the space in the sump, I would use 3-wall baffles to separate the return area to minimize micro-bubbles.
