ok so my duncan was closed for a few days i was like oh that’s fine then i noticed white stringy things and they retract when touched now i know they are hydroids and i know blah blah terrible spelling no commas i’m kinda in a rush atm but here’s what i did

i took my turks- baster thing filled it with hydrogen peroxide and i cut the flow and everything and i just blasted away at them i also did a water change after i waited a bit do you think that killed them off or no

and here’s a picture of the duncan that had them and then there were also some on the rocks as well that i couldn’t take out of my tank so i dont know if they are gone for good or not so any help would help

Are you confident the hydroids were what's bothering your Duncan? I've had similar hydroids in my reef for many years and they don't bother anything

I wouldn't give up yet! I've seen much worse corals make miraculous recoveries. As long as there is some flesh left they are capable of healing completely

Fenbendazole can be used to eradicate hydroids but it will also kill all of the other types of worms in your tank. I personally have never used it though so do lots of research on if it'll be safe for your tank before pulling the trigger!

yea i dont know i think i’m just gonna get a 15 gallon tank or a 20 and sell the coral in that one but keep my anemone in the other tank till the new one hits 8 months and i’ll obviously keep my wrasse and my shrimp

I’m currently fighting hydroids. I’m using vibrant beneficial bacteria, as well as reduced feeding (mostly target feeding) to hopefully starve them. In addition, I use a toothbrush to scrub off any I see when I do water changes

Starving them is the way to eradicate them BUT you must direct water flow towards them, not at them and they will be unable to grab food and starve off. This very flow may help the duncans who desire moderate light and water flow.

Other parameters are:

salinity 1.025
Ph 8.1 - 8.3
temp 77-79
alk 8-9
mag 1300
CA 440
Nitrate < .04
Phos < .05

These are Some of mine:
