How to get rid of Dinos (I think)?

Hey everyone so I'm pretty sure I'm having a dino outbreak. Tank is 25 gal and been setup for a few months but with some existing live sand and rock from my previous tank. Tank is an AIO so I just have basic filtration in the back and was running chemi pure elite. I then switched to chemi pure...

Dinos showed up while using Chemiclean

Hi all, I've had my reef tank up for a little over a year and a half. I have learned a lot in that time, specifically that keeping a reef is much more intense than I originally thought coming from the freshwater side of the hobby. Before I decided to jump in to reef keeping, I thought all the...

    Please help. Dino’s? Diatoms? Cyano?

Hello, I have a new tank that’s been running for almost 3 months and a few days ago I started noticing my rock, sand, and glass have started turning brown. My tank has been cycled since week 2 so I don’t think it’s diatoms. I had something like this when I started a tank a few years ago and...

    Dino x

When using Dino x, do you run the skimmer or no? I have heard to run it wet, but on the bottle says nothing about skimming. Only shut off UV, remove carbon and remove and phosphate reducers. Thanks in advance for your thoughts/opinions.

    Algae identification - microscopic images

Hey guys, could you help me out identifying the algae I currently have in my reef tank? Attached you will find some images. I probably guess diatoms and cyanobacteria are present. However, I also think that some dinoflagellates are in between. But I'm not sure about the last. Thanks in advance!

Dinos in QT tank. Can I move them?

My coral quarantine thing is currently going through Dino’s. I did a black out and I’ve been adding beneficial bacteria every day. Today I vacuumed out as much as I could off of the egg crate and will do so again in another day or two. If I scrub the coral skeletons on my torches would it be...

    Is this Dino? Help

Hello, I am looking to see if this is Dino? This is in my Coral quarantine tank and I was getting ready to add coral to my display tank and I want to know if this is Dino and what your recommendation is to beat it? Also I assume it’s a bad idea to add the coral to my display? Clean them and then...

Iron, Silica, and Iodine and Dinoflagellates

The role of iron in the growth of dinoflagellates is well characterized, so nothing written here is novel- I simply wanted to validate a pet theory of mine and provide documentation in case anyone finds this post of any interest later. I set up an experiment* and dosed experimental containers...

    Dino’s. HELP!

Having a pretty bad Dino outbreak, and i think I’ve narrowed down the why, nitrates and phosphates are consistently low, and i started the tank with new dry rock so there wasn’t much bacteria to outcompete. it’s now covering the surface of all my rock scape and some of my frags So trying to...

    Help identifying Dinoflagellate

Hi guys, struggling with dinos over the last couple of months, I’ve invested in a microscope but still unsure of species. For me, they look And behave like Amphidinum, but they seem to migrate into the water column at night. Also, my inverts have been dying recently which tells me it’s most...

Can I move rock from a tank with dinos to a new tank?

Greetings! I have an established 37 gallon reef tank that recently had an outbreak of dinoflagellates (Ostreopsis). Unfortunately, the tank also has a seal that is going bad (developing some larger bubbles), and so I'm using these circumstances as an opportunity to upgrade to a larger 130.4...

    Dino ID

Hey guys, been fighting dinos in the tank for a while. Initially thought it was Cyano since i had a previous cyano outbreak but when water changes and chemi-clean made it worse, figured something was amiss. Trying blackout to rid Dinos in tank.

Now that I've finally gotten rid of the turf algae in my tank, I'm now battling my first real outbreak of dinos in my 16 month old tank. I think it probably has to do with switching over to the Zeovit system 4 months ago, and having an ULN system not allowing the Dinos anything for competition...
