Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
100 gallon stock tank from Tractor supply, 75% is below ground. This keeps it cool in the summer and helps keep it from freezing in the winter. Fish can stay in it year round. It is a still water pond, built to help control mosquitoes. Already see the benefits of controlling mosquitoes. The plants were cheerfully donated by the Chattahoochee river. The plants help control nitrates, these goldfish and soon to add a bunch of guppies are basically feeder fish from the LFS that we gave a better life to. The goldfish can thrive in the colder water in the winter.
I know this will be probably be a dumb question, but how does a water feature help control mosquitos? They lay their eggs in the water...

It attracts them to lay there in the feature then the fish eat them vs then laying in random places and the eggs hatching and turning into mosquitoes. At least I think that's the logic behind it.

its a still water pond (no pumps), the "skeeters" as we call them lay eggs in the water, the goldfish eat the skeeter larvae in the water.

We "usually" have mild winters, snow is rare . Put it this way, its rare for my wife's bird bath to freeze
LOL, ours was kinda mild last year. We only got below 0 a few times

Thank you. That makes perfect sense.

I need to step back from the construction a little bit, the tank is a mess in parameters right now, visually fine but in parameters not so good. I need to have time for myself, my family and others things again.

short video of wife's goldfish pond outside when I was adding some water, let me know if it won't play

Really cool Jimmy, I like that a lot.

You need to take care of yourself brother before you can help others. You and your wife and son are your priorities. Every one else will understand if you need a break.

we actually had snow last year, its rare to get below 20 deg here

Yes you do! All work and no play is no way to live!

Absolutely right brother. As the go to guy in my family. I realized a while back that im no help in the long run if im not taking care of myself as well. That is true physically AND mentally. We miss you as well buddy

Hello brother!
Good morning Rock. I hope youre having an easy day so far. Be as kind and patient to yourself as you are to others. I think that’s very important.

Polyurethane?
worse. Interlux Schooner Varnish.
I put screws through plywood so I could paint the bottom side, lay it on the screw points then paint the top side and let dry. dries to touch in 3 hours. did this with a full gas vapor respirator. garage is fully open airing out with fans as well. wondering though how long it will be before I can close the doors etc...The night temps drop down to low 50's right now but during the day it's low 70's. can't do this outside because it's all sun.
