Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
I have heard of this also. Elevated mag as algae deterrent
+1 but I believe they say it needs to be over something like 1500, so a little above normal tank levels. I don't remember where I read it and I've never tried it but it seems possible to me.

My oldest son recently bought season 1, so now this is stuck in my head. You've been warned.

That brings back so many memories. I started hearing the theme song as soon as I saw the picture

No flesh band. And it hadn't been in the tank but for a couple days when this started. The seller said he'd replace it when he got another one like it. It is possible it wasn't my fault, but you know I just had that weird tank crash a little while back, and my hammers haven't fully recovered. I'm getting nervous and probably overreacting lol
Got it. I don't think it was your fault then. You have some beautiful corals and there's no explanation on why your hammer would die. You are a smart reefer and know how to take care of corals. Good on the vendor for offering a new one! Can't wait to see it!

Hanna for alk, nitrate and phosphate are great IMO the best.
All the salifert are excellent but the above Hanna testers make it so simple.
I actually thought the seachem copper test was really good when I was having a copper issue years ago but it was sort of difficult to do.
Like everything, practice makes perfect and also makes for much more consistent results.
I've also used api ph and kh liquid tests and they were just fine
In fact api calcium test kit is very good too.
Just my 2 cents.
I've wasted a lot of money on bad test kits.
Thanks for the info!

I do still have it. I dose aminos. Is this something different, like an actual dip?
yeah, an actual dip. When the coral is closed it cant really feed since the polyps aren't out. Amino acids get diluted into the water so the coral when it's closed gets nothing, or maybe a tiny tiny amount. It's also not getting much energy from light, so really the coral has no food source. It takes energy for corals to extend its polyps, so if the coral has no energy, then it can't extend its polyps. I think this is the reason many people have their gonis slowly die and recede, they're just starving. Basically, the dip forces the coral to consume some aminos since it's so highly concentrated in the water. The reef roids probably don't get consumed, but maybe it raises po4 to high levels enough so that the coral can consume some. After all, po4 is necessary for life and its the most valued nutrient on planet earth. I did this to my goni that was sealed shut, and after just 2 hours the polyps came out. Not fully extended, but enough to see maybe a quarter inch of the "stalk". It's still improving as I type.

It's just something to try. Are you dosing any trace elements?

Have you ordered from them much? Do they usually send decent freebies? I was worried if just get a Kenya trees or something I wouldn't even want in my tank
SBB freebies are usually mushrooms, Gonis, or Acros. At least they were back when I was ordering from them.

5 pages... I don't have time to go back through everything. Anyone ask me anything I need to reply to or did I miss anything good?

Nothing really happened I don't think

- We talked about dying hammers
- My goni dip and how it's helping my gonis, as well as why I think gonis often die in peoples tanks
- Vintage reefer got some new lights
- We talked about magnesium

I think that's it

Not all is lost though. The big aliens seem to be doing well, and the zoa race is on in the zoa garden

I appreciate that very much, my friend.

I got a goni! Much better than a Kenya tree lol

That is really great info Walker. I'll be honest with you, that makes a lot of sense to me. I dose fuel by aquavitro.

Do you do this in a quarantine, or some smaller container?

Any bad issues with running it this high Tom?

Really bad photo, but just in a small cup. I had it in there for maybe 7 minutes because I didn't know how the coral would react so I didn't want to go overboard. Every minute or so I would stir the water.

Yours make take a few dips to get polyps to come back since it's been closed for a while.
