Additional Aquarium Information

What do you think are the keys to your success in reefing?
Patience
Do you guys feel there is any indication that my corals are to suffer this same fate? I know it's a bit of a toss up on what caused it. Who can say really? Im just wondering based on everyone's past experiences.
Your corals all look amazing in that video you shared with us, John. As long as nothing else worsens or happens, I can only imagine your corals will be fine.

That makes me feel better Walker. Thanks my friend.

John, another thought of mine is fish disease. Have you added anything wet into the tank recently? One disease that comes to mind is velvet, which is sometimes hard to spot and can kill in as little as 12 hours. Were all your fish eating yesterday evening, too?

If it's a bacterial bloom, will that effect the corals the way it did my fish? These fish were very much alive at 10 pm last night
It shouldn't. Bacterial blooms can cause some light loss but short term that won't affect the corals. The lack of oxygen will kill fish quickly but not corals. In fact, dosing sugar/vinegar/vodka causes a small scale bacterial bloom that feeds the corals so potentially, the corals are happier this way?

What do you mean by wet brother? Yeah they ate like maniacs yesterday evening

That is very interesting. You're a book of knowledge man. Thanks for your insight. Would you know what may have potentially caused a bloom like this?

I appreciate it Kevin. Im reeling right now. There's no life, no movement in my tank anymore. My fish were all special to me.
I understand brother. You'll bounce back my friend! On a positive note, your corals look great!

I turned off my wavemaker last night for the berghia to work. My return pump stayed on and there was a long period of time before I even had the wavemaker. Now im wondering if this was a good idea.
That shouldn't have affected the fish, more so the corals would be affected by that I would think.

With that said, stagnating water can have some definite temperature fluctuations throughout, but if your corals are happy it's really a tough thing to figure out.

I appreciate all of your help guys. Tim, Keith and Luis, I.wish you.guys could drive by and check it out. Head on over, I'll boil yall some shrimp or something.
I'll plan on it brother!

Absolutely agree with this.

I would think if the cause would have effected your corals they would have shown signs before the fish. I think what ever the cause, I don’t think there will be any detrimental effects to your corals.

Usually small blooms are caused by a snail (think large - turbo maybe?), crab, or fish death. Conches, turbos, urchins, or several smaller snails die and decay quickly and bacteria numbers shoot up exponentially to consume the new addition of food source. Sometimes you get slimy snot looking strands on the rocks, other times you end up with the water column type. Any increase in bacteria causes a decrease in DO and an increase in CO2 which can drop pH. Small scale usually won't affect most tanks, larger scale could affect small/medium size tanks more rapidly.

I don't want to sound repetitive, John, but if you could check your parameters to see where we are, and from there we can clear up possible situations. We already ruled out temperature and salinity, right?
A jump in any parameter ( especially alk ) can cause a series of events.
I'm also wondering if this is the first time you've turned off the powerheads all night or have you done it before?

Anything wet with water, like things from other people tanks with fish in them. Corals, CUC, live rock, sand, macroalgae, etc.
